WandaVision director ‘honoured and terrified’

Vandavision director Matt Shakman says the Disney Plus series will launch Phase 4 of Marvel Studios, a matter of both pride and concern for him.

The show is the first project of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) since the record-breaking success of Avengers: Endgame in 2019.

“It’s an honor, and it’s terrible. And it’s real, everybody else (right now).

“The fact that we are the first MCU asset to come out since Endgame, I could never fathom when we first started working on this project … but it was in the streaming world of Marvel A great way to start the work, ”said Shakman to SFX magazine.

The director, whose previous credits include Fargo and Game of Thrones, said the upcoming limited series is “a huge love letter to the history of television”.

“(This) is the perfect way for the producers of the biggest blockbusters to come on television,” he said.

WandVision marks the return of actor Elizabeth Olsen as the super-powered Android vision of Slate, Skelet Witch aka Wanda Maximoff and Paul Bettany, to premiere on 15 January.

Captain Marvel and Black Widow writer Jack Scheffer have started the show.

The cast also stars actor Katherine Hahn, Debra Joe Rup and Fred Melamed.

Kat Dennings will reprise her role of tech-savvy assistant Darcy Lewis from the Thor films to scientist Jane Foster (played by Natalie Portman) and return as FBI agent Jimmy Wu in Randall Park, Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Actress Tyonah Paris will play the role of an adult Monica Rambue, a fellow Marvel superhero who last appeared in Captain Marvel as the young daughter of Leshana Lynch’s character fighter pilot Maria Rambue.

WandVision will also tie in the upcoming Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange and Multiverse of Mad movie starring Benedict Cumberbatch.
