Why hang out with a big loser who can’t take two strides without running out of steam when you’re a professional athlete? It’s a very good question, you’ll recognize it, and that’s why a lot of athletes end up in a relationship with each other (this interpersonal relationship, it’s sad).
“Birds of a feather flock together”, a hypothesis confirmed by studies carried out by the Harvard research center. And we like to see them love each other, these top athletes, I let you discover, or rediscover, these mythical couples, too cute in addition to being too strong.
1. André Agassi and Steffi Graf
To introduce them a bit: André Agassi is one of the greatest American tennis players in the world, he won 60 singles titles on the APT circuit, an Olympic title and 8 Grand Slams in the 90s/2000s. He was also born in Las Vegas, it’s useless info but I find it funny to be born in Las Vegas. Steffi Graf is also a great tennis player who has won a lot of great stuff including 29 Grand Slam titles, an Olympic title and she is the longest player in the world number 1 spot. In short, the couple weighs in the game.
And imagine that the two tennis legends got together after their two victories at Roland-Garros in 1999. Yeah, that’s a pretty stylish story to tell. More stylish than your friend Mylène who met her boyfriend while puking on him at his own birthday party.
They have been together for more than 20 years, and they have two children. Too cute, we are a fan.
2. Gael Monfils and Elina Svitolina
More tennis, like what, it’s a sport where you meet people (think about it rather than hanging out on Tinder).
Our little Gaël Monfils, who is also very fit at the moment, has been married since 2021 to Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina. Well we are a notch below in terms of level compared to André Agassi and Steffi Graf, but we still appreciate this very cute couple who seem to spin the perfect love (how silly).
3. Miroslava Vavrinec and Roger Federer
Always tenniiiiis (yes me too I’m tired of it), but how not to envy the couple of champions that form Miroslava Vavrinec and Roger Federer.
Miroslava Vavrinec is a Swiss player who played in the late 90s until the early 2000s, but who never really shone in world tennis (it must be said that she injured her foot in 2002 ). 4. Caroline Wozniacki et David Lee

Professional tennis player Caroline Wozniacki (read to the end, I keep my promises) is the only Danish player to have been world number 1 for 67 weeks in a row. Since 2019, she has been married to NBA basketball player David Lee (I told you it wasn’t just tennis). Together, they have a daughter, born at the end of 2021. A very cute couple who seem to be working, we love it.
5. Coralie Balmy and Alain Bernard
They are no longer together, ok, but they were one of the most glamorous couples in French sport so I’m going to talk about it anyway (don’t care about the rules). In 2008 when Alain Bernard was only 25 years old and had just won three Olympic medals, he also declared to the general public his love for the swimmer Coralie Balmy, 21, who was then French freestyle champion.
Everyone thought it was too stylish for champion Alain Bernard and young champion Coralie Balmy to start a beautiful love story. Well in the end it didn’t last, but it doesn’t matter, we loved this couple.
6. Gro Hammerseng and Anja Edin
The two Norwegian handball internationals got married in Norway in August 2013 and have been mothers to a baby boy since February 2012.
They played for the same club, Larvik HK, with which they won many national titles together. Gro Hammerseng is also an Olympic champion, and three times European champion with the Norwegian national team.
A very stylish love story of two sportswomen who manage to win titles together, that’s strong.
7. Liv Grete and Raphael Poirée
Liv Grete, eight-time world champion and three-time Olympic biathlon champion, and Rapahël Poirée also eight-time world biathlon champions (coincidence) and three-time Olympic medalists (bronze and silver are a little worse than his girlfriend), have been married for 22 years now and have three daughters together.
These two athletes form a mythical couple in winter sports, but as everyone doesn’t care about winter sports, we don’t really know them, even though they are really too cute.
8. Laure Manaudou and Frederick Bousquet
They are no longer together either, everyone knows it, since Laure Manaudou is now with singer Jérémy Frerot.
And yet in the good old days, Laure Manaudou and Frédérick Bousquet formed a couple of mythical swimmers. Already because everyone adores Laure Manaudou because she is just too strong (she has won the European championships 9 times, the world championships 3 times, and the Olympics once) and because they were cute together. Frédérick Bousquet (4 times long-term European champion, anyway) and Laure Manaudou therefore stayed together for a few years and even had a daughter together. Unfortunately, while Laure Manaudou is pregnant with their second child, the latter has a problem, and she is forced to have an abortion. But the two swimmers will have made us dream for a while, and we prefer to remember the good times of their relationship, even if each has rebuilt his life on his side and they seem very happy in their respective couple.
9. Rickie Fowler and Allison Stokke
We start with a couple of athletes who are a little less known, so a little less glamorous, I admit. Nevertheless the American pole vaulter Allison Stone and the American golfer Rickie Fowler still look very cute together, and they mix two different sports, which ultimately is quite rare, so they have the right to their place in this top.
Allison Stokke is therefore an American pole vaulter who has won a few national titles but has never established herself in world athletics (she is better known as a model for sports equipment manufacturers), and Rickie Fowler is a golfer who has to date 6 victories on the pro circuit.
10. Tony Yoka and Estelle Mossely (who are now divorced, sniff)
YES they are not together I KNOW. It’s okay, I’m talking about it anyway, because their story of double victory at the Olympics in 2016 was just incredible. The two boxers Estelle Mossely and Tony Yoka climbed together on the highest step of the podium, and got married 2 years later.
Well, this love story was so cool, but today they are divorced and Tony Yoka has been accused of doping. It cools the mood a bit.
There are also a few children in the story, a first born in 2017, and a second in 2020, when the parents were already separated.
