Despite being omitted at the opening ceremony of BlizzCon 2021, Blizzard revealed many details Overwatch 2 In a separate livestream. The surprisingly in-depth preview showcased the game’s new skill system, story and hero mission.
Overwatch 2 Blizzcon first surfaced in 2019, though details have been sparse since. In the presentation, game director Jeff Kaplan confirmed that the game is a full sequel, not an add, as some fans speculated.
The presentation took a deep plunge into the sequel’s new talent system, which allows players to unlock and equip various abilities. Each character gets their own individual skill tree with different talents that change their playing style. For example, a Solider 76 build allows the character to emit a healing aura that distances other players. Like Blizzard and Electric Powers, also showed various fundamental abilities.
Blizzard watched the game’s new PvE hero missions closely. Missions can take place on all the game’s multiplayer maps and introduce several tweaked variants that bring in new enemies and mission types. The mode is a major part of the game’s progression system, as it gives players points of experience. Blizzard says that the game has plans to include hundreds of different missions to make the mode feel like a piece.
Players got to see a quick gameplay on Sojourn, a new character revealed in 2019. The character uses a rail gun consisting of a rapid-fire mode and a high-damage single shot-mode that rewards players with high aiming skills.
The presentation explored new maps, including New York and Rome, tweaks to balance the game, and more details about the game’s story. Blizzard says that around this time the plot will be more directly integrated into the game and players will get different dialogues, based on which they take the heroes into the mission.
