Four first winners were also included in this year’s winners list.

As with most things this year, the award ceremonies are looking a bit different, with most of them happening virtually. The CFDA Awards are one such event. Every year in June, the CFDA Awards – the fashion world’s Oscar awards – are an attraction on the industry calendar. This year, the event was first postponed indefinitely, and then confirmed to take place during the NYFW S / S21 in a digital capacity. Overnight, the winners of the 2020 CFDA Awards were announced via NYFW’s online platform, Runway360.

In a pre-taped video, Chairman Tom Ford stated, “Since 1981, the CFDA Fashion Awards have recognized the best in fashion creativity. But 2020 is nothing but distinctive, and we have decided to abandon the in-person event, and instead announce the winners at the start of New York Fashion Week here today. Not having a gala allows us to focus on supporting designers during the global epidemic and redirect our efforts towards scholarship, and bring racial equality into fashion. For this year only, we decided to focus exclusively on our designer nominations. “

This year’s winners represent the 39-year history of the awards, with three black designers from the most diverse group at the awards – Kerby Jean-Raymond, Christopher John Rogers and Telfer Clemens – taking out the top awards in their respective categories and Gabriella Hartst The first-ever female designer to win the Women’s Wear Award since 2015 (she was also the only female winner in this year’s line-up).
