The Galaxy A42 is Samsung’s Cheapest 5G Smartphone Yet

Samsung today announced a series of new mobile products in a virtual event including the Galaxy A42 which the phone manufacturer claims is the cheapest 5G smartphone yet. The company has also introduced a new Trio wireless charging station that can top three devices and a budget Galaxy Tab A7 Android tablet simultaneously.

While the details were kept to a minimum, Samsung shared some specifics. The Galaxy A42 has a 6.6-inch OLED screen and an array of four cameras at the rear. It is expected to go on sale later this year. Samsung has not confirmed the rest of the hardware, but Sammobile has reported that the Galaxy A42 is rumored to run on a Snapdragon 690 processor, 5000mAh battery, 4GB of RAM, and a 48-megapixel primary camera. According to a blog post on the Samsung Germany website, the Galaxy A42 5G is priced at € 369 (~ $ 440).

We have reached out to Samsung for more information about the availability of the Galaxy A42 and we will update the story when we hear back.

The new Trio Wireless Charger succeeds Samsung’s Wireless Charger Duo which was capable of charging two devices at a time. The trio builds with additional space for all three devices. Samsung did not say how soon all three devices could try. It will cost € 99 (~ $ 120) in Europe and will be available in two color options: Black and White.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A7, as the name suggests, is the latest budget option from the company’s Premium Tab S7 lineup. It has a 10.4-inch screen (with a 2000 resolution of 1200 pixels), a total of four Dolby Atmos-compatible speakers and a substantial 7040mAh battery. It is powered by Qualcomm’s mid-range Snapdragon 662 chipset and, therefore, does not support 5G connectivity. The Galaxy Tab A7 will launch sometime later this year in three color variants: Gray, Silver and Gold. Its LTE variant costs € 282 (~ 335), while the WiFi-only variant will set you back by € 223 (~ $ 265).

Samsung also has a new fitness tracker: € 50 Galaxy Fit 2. It expects such a device, including 15-day battery life, heart rate sensor, sleep tracking, and a 1.1-inch OLED screen. For updates.
