The film is described as “a love letter to journalists set at an American newspaper outpost in a fictional 20th-century French town” centering on three stories. It brings to life a collection of stories published in the name french dispatch, based in the fictional French town of Ennui-sur-Blas. The film is said to be inspired by Anderson’s love of ‘The New Yorker’, and some of the characters and events in the film are based on the magazine’s real-life counterparts.
