bird cage As Pride Month draws to a close, it will hit select theaters for its 25th anniversary. A part of the TCM Big Screen Classics series organized by Fathom Events, bird cage will hit the big screen on Sunday, June 27; Monday, June 28; and Wednesday, June 30. The 25th anniversary special will also include exclusive information from Turner Classic Movies. An event trailer has been released for the film’s return to the theatres, which you can watch below.
The film’s logline reads: “In this frenzied comedy, Armand (Robin Williams) and Albert (Nathan Lane) has built a perfect life for himself while taking care of his flamboyant Miami nightclub. But when Armand’s son announces he is marrying the daughter of ultra-Orthodox Senator Keely (Gene Hackman), their quiet peace is shaken… and they’re all getting together for dinner. ! Can Armand and Albert transform themselves into Mr. and Mrs. Family Values over time? It will take the performance of his life!”

Released in 1996, bird cage Written by Ellen May and directed by Mike Nichols. The film is a remake of the 1978 Franco-Italian film La Cage Aux Falls. It stars the late Robin Williams in one of his most memorable roles of the 1990s, also starring Gene Hackman, Nathan Lane and Diane Wiest. Dan Futerman, Calista Flockhart, Hank Azaria and Christine Baranski also appear in supporting roles.
“[Robin] I was incredibly generous and sweet to me,” Lane said about Williams in a 2017 interview with Broadway World. “We laughed every day from start to finish. And of course Robin was a big part of it. He was just one of a kind. It’s a very sweet memory.”
