The Asus ZenBook 14 UX425 is the best laptop for under $ 1,000. It is a budget laptop with great performance, a state-of-the-art CPU, a near-premium build quality, and a low-power and high-quality display that is hard to find at such a low price.
We are not getting our favorite sub $ 1,000 laptops out of thin air, though. We’ve reviewed hundreds of laptops of all types and at all price points, doing so costs thousands of hours. This is definitely a Herculean task to do (and a lot of fun, obviously), and it has given us great insight into what makes for a good laptop and what holds a laptop back.

Best Laptop Under $ 1,000: Asus Zenbook 14 UX 425
We are replacing one Asus laptop, the Asus ZenBook 13 UX333, with another, the ZenBook 14 UX425, as our choice for the best laptop for under $ 1,000. this Starts at just $ 800, and for that price, you’ll still get a 10th-generation Ice Lake Intel Core i5-1035G1 processor, 8GB of RAM, a 512GB solid-state drive (SSD), and a low-power Full HD. (1,2020 x) get 1,080) IPS display. It is still a big deal if you spend an extra $ 100 to update the Core i7-1065G7 with Iris Plus graphics.
The UX 425 version of the ZenBook 14 is intended to be thinner and lighter, and is surprisingly successful. And yet, it gives less through building quality. It also benefits from strong battery life thanks to its low-power 1-watt display, and has a great keyboard and touchpad. Very few compromises have been made to fit this laptop into the $ 800 price point, and it not only makes a great value, but is a downright food.

The best gaming laptop for less than $ 1,000: Dell G5 SE
It would have been inconceivable a few years ago that you could find a laptop with a graphics card for under $ 1,000, powerful enough to run the latest games without changing the way the expansion settings were made. The Dell G5 SE is a novelty in that regard. Starting at just $ 880, it has a fast AMD Ryzen 5 4600H processor, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD and AMD Radeon RX 5600M graphics card.
During our time with the G5 SE, we were consistently impressed by its strong gaming performance – even though we were overwhelmed by its display quality (other than the 144Hz refresh rate, which we loved).
At this price range, you simply will not find a better gaming laptop. The G5 SE is without peer when it comes to gaming performance on a budget. If you have more money to spend, then you should join our list of the best gaming laptops.

The Best Laptop for College Students Under $ 1,000: Apple MacBook Air
College students often turn to the MacBook, which directly sees Apple’s strong promotional efforts. In this case, Apple offers the 2020 MacBook Air to college students for just $ 900, one of the cheapest ways you’ll get your hands on an Apple laptop.
This price will net you a Retina display with 1oth-gen dual-core i3 CPU, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD and True Tone support. It has a lot of power to take notes and finish homework, in a chassis that is thin and light and Apple’s amazing Magic Keyboard.
A Caviate is the rumored return of a 12-inch MacBook later this year, which may be the first Apple Silicon-powered MacBook. With a rumored price of $ 750, it may be the last college laptop.

The best laptop for photo and video editing: Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 7
Whether it is photo editing or video editing, finding a laptop under $ 1,000 that can meet your needs will be difficult. At least, it used to be that way when AMD released its stunning Ryzen 4000 line of CPUs. Now, you benefit from the fastest processor you can buy for $ 1,000 (and for rivals in machines that sell for $ 2,000 and up) with reasonably quick graphics.
Fast video editing often requires both a fast GPU and a high core-counter processor, and Lenovo’s IdeaPad Slim 7 provides the proper mix of the two for its Risen 7 4800U CPU. Meanwhile, both photo editing and video editing require a well calibrated screen with accurate colors. Unfortunately, the XPS 15, MacBook Pro 15, or razor blade you need are never under $ 1,000.
It is a great laptop overall, but there is some competition on the horizon. Intel’s upcoming 11-gen processor has shown outstanding performance in Adobe applications, most notably in Premier Pro. When the first options under $ 1,000 are revealed, we’ll save our recommendation, but they can run this AMD laptop for their own money.

Best 2-in-1 for less than $ 1,000: Surface Pro 7

As a 2-in-1 with best in-class hand writing recognition and Windows Inc., this is a versatile mobile workstation with features you won’t find anywhere else, at least not at this price. For this reason, if you are looking for something ultra mobile and stylus-friendly, it is difficult to defeat.

Research and Purchase Tips
Is the laptop under $ 1,000?
Of course! As we stated in the preamble, you want to be careful when purchasing a budget laptop to ensure that the manufacturer has not cut the corners you care about. But clearly, the same is true for premium laptops – you can spend over $ 2,000 and get a laptop that won’t meet your needs if you don’t carefully identify what’s important to you is.
In the world of cars, the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla are two of the best-selling cars of late and for good reason. They are inexpensive, safe, provide decent performance, and will not break the bank when it comes to maintaining them. If you are looking for basic transportation, you cannot go wrong with any of these options. The same goes for budget laptops: You can’t find a Ferrari, but if you need good performance and reliability at a good price, our list proves that you can get significantly less computers for less than $ 1,000. Huh.
Should I buy Windows or Mac or try Chromebook?
depends on. In particular, it depends on what kind of tasks are important to you. We suggest that you check out our Windows, MacOS and Chrome OS buyer’s guide, which eliminates the differences between each operating system and some of the advantages and disadvantages of each.
Chances are, if you are looking for a laptop that is less than $ 1,000, you will not see a Mac until you are ready to buy an older model. This leaves a choice between Windows and Chrome OS, which is mainly a question of which software you need to run. If you want a wide selection of software in the most categories, Windows will be your best bet. But if you only need to browse the web, run simple productivity applications, and can get away with Android counterparts, Chrome OS can work.
Which processor should I buy?
Your choice has recently expanded. You can stick with Intel and get Ice Lake or Komat Lake 10th generation Core i7 CPUs in laptops that are under our $ 1,000 limit. But now AMD has a very competitive platform in its Ryzen 4000 series CPUs. If you want to go well under $ 1,000, you can get a very fast Ryzen chip or Intel Core i5, both of which are highly capable processors that will churn through most productivity tasks without hesitation – but AMD Ryzen will be much faster overall. You can enjoy good battery life with any of these CPUs.
If you buy a Chromebook, you can get away with a slower processor, such as an Intel Core i3 or Pentium processor. And, chances are, you won’t find many laptops with Core i7 processors in this price range. The budget leaves the Core i5 and AMD Ryzen 5 as the most logical and available processor options for laptops.
How much RAM do I need?
The sweetest place for memory – for any laptop, in fact, not just budget machines – is 8GB. We answer the question of “how much RAM do I need” in more detail in our buyer’s guide, but whether you’re running Windows, MacOS, or even a more lightweight Chrome OS, 8GB is great for multitasking. All headroom will provide more complex applications.
What graphics hardware should I look for?
Most budget laptops will come with integrated graphics, usually some version of Intel’s UHD graphics technology that the company builds in its core CPU. This means that most budget laptops can play older games at a lower resolution and still handle your day-to-day productivity needs. That is, unless you consider AMD, in that case you can get much faster performance than Intel’s integrated options.
However, as our list indicates, you can find budget laptops with much sharper graphics. These will provide a much better gaming and content-creation experience than managing Intel’s integrated graphics, and if you’re willing to compromise for 1080p and less graphical details, you can do some real gaming with some of them .
Can I buy a laptop with a 4K display?
Probably not – it wasn’t that long ago when you would struggle to find a full HD display available for under $ 1,000. And, most budget laptops do not come with enough battery power to support 4K displays for hours. If you manage to pack a 4K display into a budget laptop, you probably shouldn’t go too far from the outlet.
