Film fans around the world are shocked by the sudden death of actor Chadwick Boseman. Earlier today, Boseman died of colon cancer, surrounded by his wife and family. In Statement, Bosman’s family revealed that he has been battling cancer for four years while maintaining a busy schedule, including blockbuster superhero movies and critically acclaimed films.
Bosman was active as an actor for only 17 years, but he played an influential role in a relatively short period of time. On the big screen, Bosman portrayed black icons such as Jackie Robinson, James Brown, and Thurgood Marshall, while also breathing life into fictional characters and action heroes.
It seems unfair to lose an actor in the prime of his life, when his ability promised bigger and better things even further. But when we grieved for Bosman, as well as his family and friends, he left behind a cinematic legacy that would stand the test of time. Bosman was not exactly the perfect physical match for the late, great James Brown, but made the audience believe his on-screen personality get started. This musical biopic chronicled the rise and fall and re-rise of Godfather of Soul. Bossman’s turn as Brown was absolutely electrified, and he carried the film on his strong shoulders.

There was an upbeat excitement in 2014 when Chadwick Boseman was cast as Black Panther and slated to debut in his Marvel Cinematic Universe Captain America Civil War. It would be easy to get lost in a film that introduces Spider-Man and alienates the Avengers. Despite this, Bossman had a screening appearance at Teachala, as he sought to avenge his father’s death by chasing Winter Soldier, Bucky Barnes. Black Panther is also the only hero in the film who eventually realizes how hollow his vengeance is. This is a lesson that supersedes Robert Downey, Jr.’s Iron Man (at least for this film).

In 1940, Marshall accused a black man of raping a white woman.
