NutriBullet keeps it simple with three power levels, a pulse setting and 1,200 watts of power. It performed well in all our tests. Smooth batter, finely crushed ice, mildewed smoothie and good grated cheese (our torture test) were all easy to obtain. A reasonable $ 100 price tag means that you won’t have to break the bank to get a good blender.

More powerful than the Ninja and Oster models below, the NutriBullet works quickly. The 64-ounce blending jar is large enough for most dishes. The blender comes with a handy recipe book and a tamper to ensure that all your ingredients contact the blade. This dishwasher is also safe and comes with a one-year warranty. NutriBullet easily takes the top spot as the best blender in our blender model battle.

Ninja selected our best blender budget under NutriBullet for just $ 10. We tested the $ 35 Hamilton Beach model and the $ 50 Black & Decker model, but were good enough to recommend neither. Still, the under $ 100 is commendable, and the Ninja Professional Blender performed extremely well.

Like the NutriBullet, this ninja blender has three speeds: low, medium and high. It also has a pulse function and 1,000 watts of power. It comes with six blades in three levels. This worked very well for Smoothie and the batsmen, but presented an issue when trying to fit larger items into 64-ounce containers. Overall, this affordable blender is a great buy, especially if you catch it on sale.

This Oster model is a good artist and includes some additional features that I found really helpful. At $ 190, it is on the more expensive side, but this price includes a beverage container and a set of bowls and blades for food processing. You are getting about two devices here. Other brands also offer kits like this, so this is not the only reason that it wins the title for Best Blender with additional features.

What I loved about this Oster was its upside down blend button, something I had not done on any other test model. Press and hold this button, and the blades turn in the opposite direction, scooping food into the center. This worked really well when I was crushing ice and making walnut flour. The materials that were pushed back for better chopping.

Oster has a smoothie program, a series of blending and pulses, which serve a great drink. A dip / mix mode helped mix dry and wet ingredients. In addition to those special modes, you will also get standard low, medium and high speeds. This model is premier, but it comes with a lot of extra accessories and is a super helpful reverse mix feature.

Other Models We Tested

KitchenAid K400: This $ 250 KitchenAid blender is beautiful, but left something to be desired when it came to performance for that price. It has five speeds, pulse and three presets. If you have your heart set on a colorful, quality blender, KitchenAid is still a good choice.

Vitamix 5200: Variable speed and strong design make this $ 449 Vitamix 5200 Blender a popular model for luxury blowers. At such a high price, I was not worn enough to recommend it. It struggled with cheese grating, and I found it to be much louder than other models.

Vitamix Explorian E310: This $ 350 Vitamix blender was easy to use thanks to a dedicated pulse option. Still expensive, and an average performer in my tests, I cannot recommend it to anyone on a budget. It includes a great recipe book and custom tamper.

Blendtech Total Classic: This popular $ 353 Blendtec blender made large smoothies and crushed ice. However, Blendtec failed to grind the cheese, and the batter mixture was less effective than regular blending by preset speed.

Hamilton Beach Power Elite: Affordability aside, this $ 35 blender did not perform well enough to recommend. While it had a nice glass bowl, the lid was hard to remove. It only has presets, so you’ll need to decode which ones are really low, medium, or high.

Black and decker crush master: For just $ 25, this blender will work when you really need something cheaper in a pinch. But don’t expect excellence. It was not able to handle large frozen strawberries or equally pancake batter. Nevertheless, this may be sufficient for small jobs.

Breville fresh and furious: Looks fantastic and bonus points for a cute name, but it’s not enough to recommend a $ 175 blender. The performance was average, and it struggled to mix wet and dry materials.

How do we put food processor to test

How do we test

The test mixers are not just smoothies and ice-crushing. There are plenty of blends for other dishes, which work well, and these tests highlight just how capable each model is when it comes to drying, larger and thicker ingredients.

In a test of pure crushing strength, we placed 2 cups of ice cubes in each blender. Counting the number of pulses, it is carried on a fine, uprooted ice, which gives a good indication of real-world strength. The three mixers we recommended above have performed well.

Ninja and NutriBullet took only four pulses, which were for very fine, almost twisted identities. Oster Blender was behind with six pulses. Other models did not fare so well. Some took up to a minute to get crushed ice, and some left entire cubes after that.

the con

A classic blender recipe, fruit smoothies were high on my list of recipes to test. I used 2 cups of orange juice and 1 cup of frozen strawberries to smooth the test.

Although many of these tests yielded very similar results, some worked faster than others. Not all mixers come with presets, but those that almost always do include a smoothie function. When possible, this is the mode we used. If there was no smoothie function, we followed Blender’s manual recommendation to make smoothie. It was usually around a minute on high.

the con

Smoothie testing begins with whole, frozen strawberries and orange juice.

This is a relatively easy test and most mixers handle it well. There were some frothiers and some slushiers, but only the Black and Decker models left large portions of frozen strawberries raw.

Walnut flour and butter

Blender is not all about beverages. There are many other uses including grinding dry materials. For our dry ingredient test, we put 1 cup of almond pieces (unreserved) in each blender and whisk until those pieces are mixed into fine flour. A challenge for some mixers, but most were able to do so with the Hamilton Beach model in about 10–20 pulses, which give remarkably rough results.

Nut butter is a different story. Most blenders are not really designed for the long run and the level of processing required to make butter such as almond butter or peanut butter. In fact, many recommend not running a blender for more than a few minutes at a time.

This nut flour is slightly thick.

Molly Price / CNET

Only one Vitamix model showed real signs of progress toward almond butter in our testing with walnut flour, and it still plateaued before achieving a good consistency. Most models simply place the dry material upwards and into the hard-to-wash crevice of their lids. If you are set on making nut butters, I would recommend a processing process kit, or a model like Oster with a separate food processor.

cottage cheese

Do you know that mixers can chew cheese? this is true; Some can mix. We placed an 8-ounce block of cheese in each blender and pulsed until the entire block was cut. This brought to light some interesting design choices among some models. For example, the ninja lost the cheese round because the multiple levels of the blade made it impossible to fit the cheese block into the blender. I had to cut it into pieces.

Blender can peel cheese, and this NutriBullet did so in record time; Just four pulses.

Molly Price / CNET

Both Vitamix models pierce the cheese block without actually blending it, plus a little cheese was melted after the machine was heated. Meanwhile, NutriBullet handled the cheese block as a grating in a three-pulses flat. Oster managed to find work in eight.

pancake batter

If you saw our List of the best waffle makers, It should be no surprise that the pancake batter made an appearance in our blender test. While I was happy to fire the grill and flip some cakes, the batter mixture is an important test. It measures how easy or difficult it is for blender to mix wet and dry ingredients.

Mixing is typically performed at low speeds, but there are some blends with preset mixing, such as the Breville model we tested. Nevertheless, it left unirrigated dry gram after three minutes. The best dry / wet mixer was NutriBullet; It became a smooth, vaporized batter in just 17 seconds of blending.

Tips buying blender

Like most devices, you should think about how often and for what tasks you will use it. Many budget mixers could handle some smoothies every summer. It is not worth spending $ 200 on a blender that you will use for two occasions each year. If you are mixing batters, grinding dry ingredients and crushing ice regularly, however, it may be wise to invest in a quality model. Here are some things to keep in mind.

With a mixer, accessories can make all the difference. A blender that comes with a tamper is great for getting those last stubborn bits into a blender blade, and this is an item that I highly recommend when you buy a blender. One of the many models I tested included it in the box. You can buy them separately, but they are often model-specific with a ring guard on top to protect you from tampering with the ring blender.

Some mixtures include a tamper, and it is a useful tool to safely move material toward the blade.

Molly Price / CNET

If you are making greasy and frozen drinks, a blender with a special set of travel containers makes the door a step easier. If you are mixing larger, more dense foods for dishes, consider a model that has either a food processing bowl and wheel blade option or something with a higher power watt. Ninja and Nutribull, among other brands, also make these kits for travel kits and processors.

Predetermined priority

Next, consider your preference for specific modes vs. speed. I found some modes to be effective and helpful, while other blowers worked better when I took over and chose a speed for my components, to see when to stop. Some models offer only low, medium and high modes. Others, like many Vitamix models, are variable with speeds 1–10 on a dial. There are also models with task-specific modes such as Smoothie, Mix, Ice Crush and Self Clean. More important than a preset, a blender with a pulse option ensures that you’ll be able to mix those pesky previous few pieces.

While it comes down to preference, in my opinion, you will have more control over your result without preset.
