Best 13 Inch Laptop: Dell XPS 13 (2020)

What we thought about Dell XPS 13 (2020):

When talking about how much we love XPS 13., it’s hard not to sound like full-throated. This is our favorite laptop for the last five years, and the latest 2020 version is better than ever. Dell has already completed what we’ve been begging to do for years and took the webcam back to the top of the screen where it belongs, and there’s so little to complain about that it’s not hard .

Before coming with the XPS 13s, this version is lightweight (less than 3 pounds), portable and highly attractive. Base specs start with a 10th generation Intel Core i3-1005G1 processor, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of PCIe NVMe solid-state drive storage. Ports include two Thunderbolt 3 / USB-C (including DisplayPort and power delivery compatibility), and a laptop comes with a USB USB-C adapter to help manage some of your older accessories. More expensive options are a touchscreen and processor improvements, but otherwise, the specs remain relatively the same.

Don’t expect to play the latest and greatest games at a high frame rate, but what exactly is this laptop. No laptop is perfect, but the XPS 13 is as close as we have seen so far, suitable for a wide variety of tasks and highly capable of handling them all.

Best 13 inch laptop for students: microsoft surface laptop 3

What did we think of Microsoft Surface Laptop 3:

By the third generation, Microsoft has almost mastered this portable 2-in-1 laptop, now available in 13-inch sizes and ready for action in the classroom, office, or remote work desk space. The build quality is futuristic and durable, with an extra-strong keyboard with a telltale curved hinge and wearable screen. It remains cool under pressure, and the 13-inch size is particularly well suited for tablet mode. The 2,256 x 1,504 resolution screen is particularly beautiful.

Inside, you’ll find options starting at 10th-gen Intel Core i5-1035G7, 128GB SSD storage, and 8GB RAM. There are plenty of options for upgrading to 32 GB of RAM if you wish, meaning that professionals can customize their build for specific work tasks. Connections include two USB-A 3.1 ports, a USB-C 3.1 port and a Surface Connect port for dedicated charging (unfortunately, no Thunderbolt 3 yet).

The battery of this Surface laptop is rated for 11.5 hours. Our own tests found that the computer lasted less than 10 hours for web browsing and about 5 hours in our Basmark Web Benchmark test. It’s better than the larger 15-inch Surface 3, but not as good as the XPS 13 can achieve.

Best 13 Inch Gaming Laptop: Razor Blade Stealth (2020)

What we thought of Razor Blade Stealth (2020):

The latest version of Stealth means business and is ready to combine the portability of a 13-inch machine with the internal capability to handle demanding games without flying in your face. It is excellent to see that this model includes both an Intel quad-core 10th-gen Core i7-1065G7 processor and an Nvidia GeForce GRX 1650 Ti Max GPU, with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD. The RGB keyboard is simply icing on the cake for gamers.

Connections include USB-C, Thunderbolt 3 and USB-A. Note that this model can be maximized on a 4K 60Hz touchscreen, but it’s not really necessary unless you plan to do a lot of content creation. If you want to play competitively, there is a build option for 1080p resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate that may be more your style.

Razor Blade Stealth is a beautiful laptop, and has enough grunt to play all modern games at a reasonable frame rate, as long as you keep the graphical detail under control. Larger razor laptops outperform its gaming capability, and other laptops on this list emphasize its battery life, but for a laptop that performs well in and out of games and is doing well, it’s 13 inches. Our favorite is space.

If you can get as much as you want for $ 500, we suggest the 2018 Chromebook R13. It is a flexible 2-in-1 that still has enough performance for your everyday tasks. This can be particularly difficult to find in this price range, where a combination of lower specs and older parts can mean power or speed issues for the reluctant. The Gram laptop also has superb battery life, with a battery of 72 watt-hours in size, which is a great option for road warriors. If you travel with your laptop and the extra weight is a concern, then the LG gram 13 may be the best 13 inch laptop for you.

The best 13-inch Chromebook: Lenovo Yoga 730

What we thought of the Lenovo Yoga 730:

The updated version of Lenovo Yoga is one of the best Chromebook options if you want strong Chrome OS performance and are not concerned about price. Yogasanas are well-designed 2-in-1s that have allowed Lenovo to master the “flip” of bending the screen to turn a portable laptop into a tablet at a moment’s notice, quick sketching or a note -Ideals ideal for baking (and base) helps weigh 2.5-pounds).

The laptop offers an eight-gen, four-core Intel Core i7-8550U processor, up to 16GB of RAM, and PCIe SSD storage up to 512GB: it’s more storage than many inexpensive Chromebooks offer, and an easy way to ensure that You have enough if you know that you cannot leave all your work on the cloud then onboard space. The battery is slightly less impressive, rated up to eight hours in maximum conditions. If you have to sit for a long zoom class or web meeting, we suggest plugging in first before you start!

Best for Apple users: MacBook Pro 13

What we thought of the Macbo 0 Pro 13:

Apple fans have enjoyed the top-notch MacBook Pro model for years, and this 13-inch, 2020 version suits up with one of the best displays we’ve ever seen on a laptop of this size, with excellent building materials that are genuine Can handle the world, and (finally) the updated keyboard that makes typing on this MacBook a much better experience.

When you have some options to keep the price down with older components, you can equip this MacBook Pro with a quad-core 10th-gen Intel Core i7, though as we mentioned in our review, the processor. Some of the options and prices match oddly, so compare your options before you design a firm here. The base model also includes 256GB SSD (up to 1TB) and 8GB RAM. The ports are also up-to-date, with two Thunderbolt 3 / USB-C connections and a USB-A 3.1 connection, if you have the option to extend a lot of external devices.

Still, the 13-inch screen range is slightly smaller than that of professional designers or editors may need a laptop, so it is best suited for those working on personal projects or those with the most portable Pro experience is required. All in all, it’s easy to recommend for those looking for a small Apple laptop that still has many built-in Apple advantages for specific tasks.

Research and Purchase Tips

Does laptop screen size matter?

Yes, it certainly does. Changes in size can greatly speed up things like working in applications. The overall size of the laptop also makes a difference in portability. It is not always possible to slip a 15-inch laptop into a backpack, nor is it tried to be used in tight spaces like a small coffee shop table or an airplane.

Perhaps more importantly, however, there are significant differences in configuration options between 13-inch and 15-inch laptops. Take Dell XPS 13 and XPS 15 for example. The XPS 13 is the maximum in a four-core processor with integrated graphics, while the XPS 15 can include up to eight-core processors with discrete GTX 1650 graphics cards. Additional space in the chassis allows for these more powerful components, meaning that they will provide significant increases in performance.

What is a good screen resolution for a 13 inch laptop?

Most 13-inch laptops are offered in two resolution options: 1080p (1,920 x 1,080) and 4K (3,840 x 2,160). 4K options are often much more expensive and lose a few hours in battery life. For most people, the 1080p configuration will be very fast, especially on screens of this size. You may want to jump to 4K, however, for the wider color gamut that often comes with it. Editing photos with better colors in 4K is ideal.

Your resolution options change for laptops with longer screens. For example, the MacBook Pro features a sharp 13-inch screen with a 16:10 aspect ratio, resulting in a 2,560 x 1,660 screen resolution. Meanwhile, the Surface Laptop 2 also has a 3: 2, 13-inch screen with 3,000 x 2,000 resolution.

What is the best laptop brand?

Choosing the best laptop brand comes for a combination of which company designs the best products and which provides the best service. Dell fits the standard for both of these, making the best laptop you can buy right now. HP and Lenovo are offering good laptop design and similar customer service

On a different level is Apple, which makes stereo laptops you can buy. They also provide a high-caliber customer service experience that includes an actual brick-and-mortar store (if you have one in your area). That rating is slightly undermined with its recent keyboard kerfuffle, where reliability has become a serious issue. But there too, Apple finally fired and started replacing the laptop completely.

Is a 13 inch laptop too small for gaming?

This will both depend on what you are used to and what type of GPU can fit inside the laptop. Generally, you can play games on a 13-inch laptop as long as it can handle the game you choose. Speed is probably more worrisome than screen size, so choose a GPU with a healthy amount of RAM, SSD and gaming in mind. For many gamers, the one exception is very fast paced games where screen size is really important for situational awareness.

How do I know what size my laptop is?

For screen size, measure diagonally from the bottom corner to the opposite top corner of the screen. Do not include bezels in your measurements. You can either pull out some measurement tape, check your computer model number online or check it with a ruler.
