Tanushree Dutta, who was the catalyst to start the #MeToo conversation in the Hindi film industry, has congratulated Priya Ramani in the defamation case filed by former Union Minister MJ Akbar. Akbar filed a lawsuit against Ramani on October 15, 2018, as he was a journalist, defaming him decades ago by accusing him of sexual harassment.
Appreciating the courage and determination of Ramani and his lawyer Rebecca John, Tanushree said in a statement, “Congratulations to the brave and hearty Priya Ramani for her great victory !!” Your determination in the face of adversity and legal persecution for 2 years by an evil and vindictive person has earned you the respect of the entire country. Salute to Rebecca John, Senior Counsel! 97: 1 You were against Rebecca from the beginning, but her faith in your client, her truth and your ability to maintain the truth in the face of everything thrown at you is truly admirable !! “
Tanushree also thanked the court for its thorough observation while delivering the verdict. He wrote, “Thank you to Justice ACMM Ravindra Kumar Pandey for making a profound statement in this case and for this landmark judgment for a just decision that will improve the lives of millions.” God bless you and your family with health, wealth and happiness ”
Deciding a new legal precedent in India towards women’s safety, Dutta said, “Possibly, therefore, #Meetoo on whistleblowers to dismiss these false and malicious defamation cases immediately on first court hearings instead of wasting the courts time is required.” Women go through unnecessary troubles. This is a new legal example in India for women’s safety and I welcome it with open arms! “
Tanushree Dutta helped bolster the #MeToo movement in Bollywood in 2009, when she accused Nana Patekar of allegedly harassing her on the sets of Horn Ok Places in 2009. Subsequently, many women in the industry came forward to reveal their stories of harassment.
