Tandav trailer: The dangerous dance of politics

The trailer of Saif Ali Khan’s Amazon Prime Video web series Tandav is out. Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, the political drama also stars Mohammad Zeeshan Ayub, Dimple Kapadia, Kritika Kamra, Gauhar Khan, Sarah Jane Dias, Sunil Grover, Dino Morea, Anoop Sonai, Kumud Mishra and Sandhya Mridul.

The neatly sliced trailer shows how people from different backgrounds interact in their battle to sit on the highest chair. Saif’s Samar Pratap Singh, who belongs to a political family, is expected to become Prime Minister. Grover plays the role of his clever, all-knowing ally. Ayub is a student leader. Meanwhile, the characters of Kapadia and Mishra somehow want to ascend the ‘throne’.

The trailer shows us how these people’s lives are interwoven during the making of the play in a more-or-less predictable manner. The actors are given good roles. The screenplay is written by Gaurav Solanki, the author of Article 15, so I have high expectations. In the end, all this will boil in the direction of Ali Abbas Zafar. Known for making commercial cinema, it will be interesting to see how he has handled the web series.

Talking about his character in Tandava, Saif Ali Khan said in a statement, “The entertainment industry in India is going through a renaissance and stories like Tandava are at the forefront of this change. As an actor, for me, a good piece of dramatic writing and an engaging composition of gray characters is always exciting. As I read about the complexities of my character Summer and penetrated deep into the world of Tandava, I knew I had to play this character. “

The web series’s official synopsis reads, “Samar Pratap (Saif Ali Khan), the charismatic leader of a premier political party, feels that he is ready to take over as PM’s chair after his party (Lok Sabha) wins the election.” Samar’s father, the party’s patron and the country’s prime minister, Devaki Nandan (Tigmanshu Dhulia) is unwilling to retire yet. Anuradha, Devaki’s close aide (Dimple Kapadia), senior party leader Gopal Das (Kumud Mishra) are some of the many other leaders who consider themselves worthy of sitting in a chair. But the chair never comes easy. A parallel story plays with Shiva (Zeeshan Ayub), an idealistic campus activist who becomes an overnight youth icon shining in a political program. Shiva wants to bring change, dominate the youth and uproot the electric poles. Shiva gets his first taste of power. The lives of Shiva and Samar diverge from national politics as it meets the activism of the campus. The dance of politics as a series of events exposes the deceit, manipulation, greed, ambition and violence inherent in all relationships. “

Tandava will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on January 15.
