Much has happened since Snap’s announcement last week that it closed President Trump’s Snapchat account indefinitely. But following a temporary ban from his Facebook, Instagram and YouTube accounts as well as a permanent ban from Twitter, Snap has decided that it will also make its ban of the president’s Snapchat account permanent.
Although Trump’s social media preferences as a user are clear, Snapchat gave the Trump campaign an effective platform to specifically target younger users who are active on the service. A permanent ban will undoubtedly complicate his future business and political ambitions as he removes himself from most mainstream social platforms.
Snap says it has taken this decision in the wake of repeated violations of the company’s community guidelines that have been in the President’s account for the past several months.
“Last week we announced the indefinite suspension of President Trump’s Snapchat account, and are assessing what long-term action is for our Snapchat community. In the interest of public safety, and based on their efforts to spread misinformation, hate speech and violence, which are clear violations of our guidelines, we have decided to permanently terminate their account, ”Snap spokesperson TechCunch told.
Snape’s decision to permanently ban the president was first reported by Axios.
