Motorola Razor is back, again!

When it surfaced in February, the Motorola Razor was a hypnosis of the future with roots firmly planted in the past. It was the first modern smartphone to be replaced in half with a foldable display – but it also packed indifferent appeal, as it seemed like a confrontation from the early 2000s. In short, the phone was very, very good. But there was a problem when the $ 1,500 phone was launched, and it was called the Galaxy Z Flip.
Because the Z Flip had premium 2020 specs (compared to the modest 2019 specs on the Razr) available on more carriers and priced lower, Motorola’s foldable flip phone suddenly did not seem so appealing.
Then things got worse Universal epidemic Started, which forced many people to tighten their spending habits.
Despite all this, Motorola is giving it another job after six months. Maybe in August, Samsung added 5G to the Z Flip and raised the price of its phone from $ 1,380 to $ 1,450. Motorola also made several refinements to the razor, adding 5G and managed to drop the price to $ 1,400, which is less than $$ Z flip 5g.

It is as if the February razor was a haunted house and this new version is Motorola’s attempt to drive away the ghosts. Everything about the new razor is better: build, specs, camera, software, and cost. But that’s not all. The new razor lacks dual speakers, headphone jack, headphones, wireless charging and high refresh rate display.
It is still expensive, given that it is a foldable phone. At first glance, the compromises Motorola made seem to work, and should at the same time manage to make the razor better and less expensive. From what I’ve seen, Motorola has made a good balance, and the Razer is still a good factor. After all, even epidemics cannot dull the brightness of a folded phone and the glow of foreignness.

The Motorola razor looks striking next to a fake squirrel, atop a small picnic table.

Design: Aluminum and glass look and feel premium
The phone comes in three colors: polished granite, blush gold and liquid mercury, also known as my queen cover band. Before picking it up, I noticed the new refinement of the phone. This razor chin is much thinner. The back is no longer plastic but glass. There is a new aluminum frame. All of this adds to a solid, premium look and feel.
Its folding capacity has the same zero gap hinge mechanism from the February Razor, but some significant adjustments were made. For one thing – my favorite improvement, actually – the hinged screen doesn’t scream like a leather baseball glove when I open and close it. At least it’s not on the review unit I’m using.
The springs are tighter, making the screen more taut and (with that new taped chin) easier to flip open with one hand. The ends of the hinges are more pronounced, almost as if they wear shoulder pads. The volume rocker and the power button are no longer on the same side of the phone, making it easy for me to create a different identity.

The Razor still has a 6.2-inch internal OLED display composed of five separate layers and sealed with a hard coating on top. Motorola claims that the screen is rated to open and close 200,000 times. To give you an idea of how much he is, you can open and close Roger 100 times for five years and still not kill that number.
In some light, when the screen is off, I can exclude the edges of the steel plates that are above and below the screen. Your choice on this may vary. That said, the screen looks good and it still doesn’t have a permanent crease like the Galaxy Z Flip (which to be honest doesn’t bother me).
The phone is not IP-rated for protection from water or dust, but it has a water-repellent nano-coating on all internal components and the exterior of the phone. So if some rain drops fall on the phone then it should be fine. Just don’t leave it in the toilet.

The razor does not have an IP rating for water or dust resistance, but has a nano-coating that repairs water. A few drops should be fine.

Camera and processor: 48-megapixel camera with OIS
Motorola’s main camera (outside the phone) now has 48 megapixels – and uses Pixel binning to reduce image noise and brighten shots In medium- to low-light conditions. It packs optical image stabilization, which allows for longer shutter speeds in low light. The camera also has a periodic flight sensor to help focus flight modes and create images.
At the top of the internal display, within the Motorola batting-sized screen notch, is an advanced selfie camera with a 20-megapixel sensor.
Powering up cameras and phones Snapdragon 765G processor (G stands for Gaming), 8 GB of RAM and a 2,800 mAh battery with 15 watt turbo charging. The battery has a larger capacity than the February Razor, but it is still not much larger than other phones. Motorola said, however, the use of the Razor’s external display helps reduce stress on the battery. And we have to see what the battery life of 5G connectivity does.

When the razor is closed and unlocked, the Quick View display turns into a mini-Android phone.

Android 10 software and quick view display
The new razor has 256GB of storage and runs Android 10, which brings a variety of new and useful features, especially for external Quick View displays. When the phone locks and turns off, simply put your hand on it or tap on the power button to use the screen outside in Peck Display mode. It allows you to view notifications only by pressing and holding on an icon.
When the phone is locked and unlocked, the Quick View display changes to a mini Android phone. You can swipe down to go to the control panel, swipe to see the notification shade, swipe left to go to the camera, and swipe to the right to see the grid of apps you’ve chosen. You can use apps like YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and Gmail on the Paytm display with a mini keyboard. Motorola also threw in an addictive game for a performance called Astro Odyssey. To be honest, it has excellent music.
When you are using an app on the Quick View display and then open the phone, it will be exactly where you were. So if I’m watching YouTube videos about telescopes, I can continue to watch it on a large internal display just by opening the phone.
Other odds and ends
Perhaps the biggest improvement of the razor is that it is no longer exclusive to Verizon. It goes on sale this fall and you can get an unlocked version and use it on AT&T and T-Mobile with your sub-5 5 network.
The February razor also had only one eSIM, but the new razor has dual-SIM support: a physical nano-SIM card and an eSIM. There is also NFC for Google Pay.
Motorola is committed to two OS updates and two year security updates. Compare this to Samsung, which recently announced Support new galaxy phones with three OS updates.
