The story of Lord Rama is not unknown to us, courtesy of various versions of the epic we grew up on, especially Ramananda Sagar’s Ramayana which made a comeback on TV screens last year. Now, it seems that filmmaker Kunal Kohli decided to give a dose of the story to the new generation, but in his own style. The trailer of the MX original series, Ramyug, dropped its trailer on Thursday.
The trailer is a reverse of the life of Lord Rama, who begins as the prince of Ayodhya for the religious rule of his ‘Ram-raj’. The story includes Sita’s swayamvara, her exile, Sita kidnapping Ravana, Lord Hanuman’s dedication to Rama, the construction of Rama Setu, the great fight between the two forces and more.
One thing to note is that Ramyuga has a huge canvas and CGI, and new versions of Rama, Lakshmana, Hanuman and Ravana indulge in gravity-based stunts.
Although the makers have chosen to keep most of its cast members relatively new, actors like Tisca Chopra, Dalip Tahil and Anoop Soni also play important roles in the web series. Vivaan Bhatena playing the role of a beefed-up Hanuman is notable, as we have seen him mostly in boy-next-door or negative characters.
Talking about Ramayuga, director Kunal Kohli said, “The story of Rama has been written in Sanskrit and regional languages by some of the greatest writers in India. The in-depth writing, VFX, visually engaging directing, editing and post-production efforts have helped me breathe life on a unique scale for younger audiences. “
Recently on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, Ramyug’s team released a music video It featured the singing of Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan. Decorated musician Ustad Zakir Hussain also made his presence felt in the music video.
Ramayug will start streaming on MX Player from 6 May.
