Finding the PS5 may seem daunting right now, but we are here to help.
Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop and Target all restored PS5s last week. Those PS5 restocks were available longer than usual, which may indicate that more people (rather than scalpers) are actually getting to buy PS5 consoles.
Of amazonHappening at some point in June, which raises questions about whether there will be another PS5 restock from Amazon and if other retailers will follow suit. We’ll have to wait to find out.

Why is PS5 hard to find?
Sony’s latest console is difficult to find even seven months after its launch. Contributing to the difficulty is the fact that scalpers are using bots – andHas sustained. Sony says it is aware of the problem and is working out a solution.
“We’re working as hard as we can to rectify that situation,” Jim Interactive CEO CEO Ryan Ryan told Wired on May 12. “We see production increasing in the summer and certainly in the second half of the year, and we expect to see some kind of return to normalcy in terms of the balance between supply and demand during that period.”
Here’s a list of recent restocks to get an idea of when retailers will get more PS5s:
- Target, May 27: We have been waiting for weeks for Target to be re-stocked. Unfortunately, they left very quickly.
- Amazon, May 26: For almost a month without PS5s, Amazon came up with a major downfall of the disc console.
- Best Buy, 23 May: PS5s were in stock at Best Buy, but only for a short time.
- PlayStation Direct, May 20: Sony’s PlayStation Direct site has a unique way of handling restock, putting customers in a digital queue before making their inventory available. See below how it works and why it may be your best bet to get a PS5.
- Walmart, May 20: Large retailers such as Walmart are trying to prevent bots from buying all their stock, but it is not working. One thing to remember with Walmart is that it will release inventory in waves, so it pays to stay fresh.
How do I get a PS5 from PlayStation Direct?
The store with the most frequent PS5 restock is still PlayStation Direct, where drops often occur in the afternoon and people have to queue up for a chance to buy a console. If you don’t get one at a time, it still helps to join the queue, as some patient and lucky customers may receive priority access emails directly from Sony. The company has not provided all the details about these PS Direct emails, but you must sign up for a Sony marketing email and subscribe to a PS Plus – and you must be logged into your PSN account. If luck is with you, there is a chance that Sony will send you an invitation to purchase the PS5.
When you are in a queue, one thing should be kept in mind is how much time you have before the front of the line. Smaller, better, but no guarantee. To help your opportunities, once you are in the queue, share the link with your other devices such as mobile phones. Make sure that each device does not use the same Internet address – as if your phone is on its mobile plan while your computer uses your home Wi-Fi. This can improve your chances, as your other device may be placed in a separate queue that runs at a faster speed. Even if you don’t get a PS5, as mentioned earlier, you can still get a pass to buy one in the next round.
What are some tips for getting a PS5?
While major retailers such as Walmart, GameStop, Amazon, Target and Best Buy usually don’t give much notice before a restock, the best chance of scoring your PS5 is to log on correctly when inventory drops. Still, nothing is guaranteed, but there are ways to improve your chances.
First tip: don’t wait until you see an alert for the PS5 inventory drop. For stock updates, see links to major retailers daily or multiple times a day. (We’ve lined them all down.) If you happen to have some PS5 availability, go all-in with as many browsers and devices as possible. For example, on the desktop, open the retailer’s page in Chrome, Firefox and Edge. Second tip: create accounts at various retailers and make sure that you are already logged in if you are going to try to get a PS5. Make sure that all your shipping, bills and payment information are updated on any device you can buy from, whether it is a laptop, desktop or phone. It checks very quickly, which is important because retailers’ sites get stuck quickly, causing people to lose the chance to acquire a PS5.
