Tollywood star Pawan Kalyan’s latest blockbuster Wakeel Saab is set to debut on Amazon Prime Video this Friday. Earlier, the film’s producer Dil Raju had said that the film would hit the streaming platform 50 days after its initial release. However, as the government imposed new restrictions to increase coronovirus numbers, the producers were forced to bring forward the film’s digital premiere.
Wackel Saab released Packed Homes on 9 April. This set the box office on fire, as people created an uproar in cinema halls in Telugu states to catch Pawan Kalyan after a gap of nearly three years. The film made a record collection in its first week itself. However, the second week saw a decline in collections due to growing concerns of the Kovid-19 cases. The subsequent government curb public movements in Telangana to counter the Kovid-19 boom and further affect the film’s box office business. The Andhra Pradesh government, in its latest order, has asked state theaters to operate at 50 percent of their capacity. This is the last straw that shattered the makers of Wekel Saab’s determination to keep the film away from OTT for at least 50 days.
According to trade estimates, Wackel Saab earned more than Rs 100 crore from its ticket sales worldwide. And before its box office run, it was expected to add Rs 20 crore to the total collection.
The film is the official remake of the Bollywood film Pink. However, director Vinoo Sriram had remake tailored to fit the larger-than-life image of Pawan Kalyan. The actors themselves are recovering from the Kovid-19 transition at their farmhouse on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
