OnePlus is facing more competition than before. In previous years, the company has introduced phones with near-prime specs to be a few hundred dollars cheaper than the competition. Last year, however, Samsung launched the $ 700 Galaxy S20 FE – a device that borrowed the best things about the Galaxy S20, but came at a much lower price. Given that it now often costs $ 600, and that the OnePlus 9 comes in at $ 730, the OnePlus 9 has a tough fight ahead of it in this war between price phones.
The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE may be a bit aging, but Samsung still sells it – meaning you might be wondering which device you should buy. I have used and reviewed both phones. Here are my thoughts.
Design and performance
The Galaxy S21 may have a radical and unique new design, but the Galaxy S20 FE clings to many of the design elements you’d expect from a 2020 phone. It’s not the most exciting-looking device – and it’s certainly not ugly, but it seems that every flagship phone last year came with a rectangular camera bump on the top left and a hole-punch cutout on the display.
Of course, this look is not unique to Samsung, and in fact, the OnePlus 9 looks almost identical. Perhaps the main difference, at least at first glance, is the fact that the hole-punch cutout on the OnePlus 9 is in the center rather than the top-left of the screen. There is one more difference, though – the OnePlus 9 has a ringer switch. It’s a small touch, but I really appreciate that switch.
Build is a bit different, too. The OnePlus 9 is made from glass, while the Galaxy S20 FE is made from Samsung’s so-called “glassstick”. Frankly, the OnePlus 9 still seems a bit cheap to me, probably due to the fact that the device still has a plastic frame. And I really don’t mind that Samsung is using plastic on their phones.
The design is not all that different, nor is the performance. Both phones have a 1,080p display with a 120Hz refresh rate, and they both look great. They are very sensitive and smooth, and do not show enough As crisp as some of the more expensive 1,440p screens, they are still more than good enough. If I had to choose, I would choose a higher refresh rate at a higher resolution each time, although I would probably not want a screen that is lower in resolution than 1,080p.
While the design and display are more or less the same, the performance is slightly different. Now, remove it this way immediately – the Galaxy S20 FE performs great, and you won’t experience a big difference in how these phones perform right now.
Where are you courage Note that the difference in performance is towards the end of the life pane of these phones.
However, the OnePlus 9 technically outperforms. It has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor, coupled with 8GB or 12GB of RAM. And with that high refresh rate performance, it feels incredibly smooth and responsive. The Galaxy S20 FE features last year’s Snapdragon 865 processor with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM, but it still performs very well.
Where are you now courage Note that the difference in performance is towards the end of the life span of these phones. The Galaxy S20 FE is likely to start slowing down a bit earlier than the OnePlus 9, especially given the heavy software.
While performance represents a small difference between these phones, the camera is the biggest difference.
The OnePlus 9 comes with a triple-camera system, which consists of a 48-megapixel main camera, a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera, and a 2-megapixel monochrome camera. On the other hand, the Galaxy S20 FE has a 12-megapixel main camera, 8-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and a 12-megapixel ultraviolet camera. The addition of a telephoto camera helps make it a bit more versatile than the OnePlus device.
OnePlus has partnered with Hasselblad for the camera in OnePlus 9, with the goal that it will provide a better camera experience on OnePlus phones. And, it can happen – OnePlus 9’s camera is slightly better than OnePlus 8.
But Samsung has years of experience making some of the best phone cameras in the business, and it shows. Even on a phone as inexpensive as the Galaxy S20 FE, you’ll find relatively consistent, high-quality photos that are slightly better than those taken with the OnePlus 9. They are a bit more colorful, provide a bit more detail, and are definitely more consistent.
is triggered Little Older, but it still offers excellent value for money. Assuming that you can buy both these phones, the device that will go for you will depend on your preferences. If you want a great camera, then the Galaxy S20 FE is the way to go. If fast performance is most important to you, then There is a phone to buy. You should also consider the Galaxy S21, which matches the OnePlus 9’s superior performance And There is a better camera.
