On NT Rama Rao’s birthday, 6 of his all-time classics for you to watch

Legendary actor and former Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh late Nandamuri Tarak Rama Rao remembered his family and friends on social media on Friday on the occasion of his 98th birth anniversary. While the Nandamuri family visits NTR Ghat every year to pay homage to them on that day, they break away from the tradition due to Kovid-19 this year.

Remembering his grandfather, Telugu superstar Junior NTR tweeted, “Touch our hearts once again Dada.”

Actor-producer Nandamuri Kalyanram recalled his grandfather in a tweet in Telugu. It loosely translates, “You are our fame, you are our glory .. Great personality, our tribute to you. #Joharntr.”

Nara Rohit wrote, “On the occasion of the 98th birth anniversary, I pay tribute to that great man. # Legendary NTR Jayanthi.”

Pattharla Bharavi (1951)

A classic, this fantasy drama was directed by Kadiri Venkat Reddy. It was a lot of fun to watch the trick photography used, in which NTR played the role of Thota Ramudu, while SV Ranga Rao played the role of a magician. K Malati was the female lead. Ghantasala composed the tunes for the film. The evergreen classics “Kalavaramaye” and “Prema Kosmai Valalo Padene” are from this film.

Misamma (1955)

Misamma is a classic social drama, which is still relevant today. Directed by legendary director LV Prasad, the film stars NTR, Savitri, Akkineni Nageswara Rao and Jamuna in the lead roles. The film is a light-hearted comedy but impressive. The film has lyrics composed by Saluri Rajeshwar Rao and its album includes chartbusters like “Adavari Matalaku Arthale Verule,” “Vrindavanamadi Andaridi,” and “Ravoi Chandamama”.

Mayabazar (1957)

Starring by Kadiri Venkat Reddy, the film is an epic take on the Mahabharata. Even though the Pandavas are the main focus of the film, they have never been shown. Apart from the comedy portion of the film, the film’s music track composed by Mahan Ghantala is pure magic. While NTR played the role of Sri Krishna, SV Ranga Rao played Ghatotkacha and Akkineni Nageswara Rao and Savitri played the roles of Abhimanyu and Shashirekha respectively.

Bhukailas (1958)

It features K Shankar’s directorial character NTR as Ravana and its story revolves around the demon king, who worships Lord Shiva to obtain the Atma Lingam. NTR’s performance as Ravana is so impeccable that he is still remembered today.

Gundamma Katha (1962)

Another cult hit starring the winning combination of NTR, ANR, Savitri and Jamuna, it was directed by Kamalakar Kameswara Rao. Veteran actress Suryakantham is the main attraction of the film. The film is available on Amazon Prime and ETV Win.

Dana Veera Sura Karna (1977)

Directed and produced by NTR itself, this epic presents the Mahabharata from Karna’s point of view. NTR played three roles – Sri Krishna, Karna and Suyodhan. The film was a hit and the dialogues given by NTR in the role of Suyodhan are so popular that they are still remembered today.
