Nukkad actor Sameer Khakhar seeks work, says ‘can’t sell myself’

Veteran actor Sameer Khakhar is eagerly waiting for the Hindi film industry to get back on its feet. Khakhar, best known for playing the role of Khopri in Nookkad, is looking for good roles, which he has stopped sharing.

In an exclusive chat with, Khakhar said, “I don’t want to be sad and say that I am not satisfied with how things are at the moment.” However, I’m really hoping that the job I’m looking for gets in my way. I am eager to get in front of the camera, and may only wish to get some good offers this year. “

Sameer Khakhar, a sought-after actor in the 90s, revealed that in 1996, he moved to the US and started working as a Java coder. In 2008, when the recession hit, he moved back to India and performed his first love – acting.

“I was very happy to live a new life in America. I also knew that no one would recognize me as an actor there, and so I adapted well to new territory. I think there are very few, and only the lucky ones get to live in different stages like this. I returned to India in 2008, and I never got many good roles, except for a few projects. I hope things will change now, ”said Sameer Khakhar, smiling.

The actor shared that while he was in India, he still lacked offers, and his roles were like “copra”.

He commented, “After the nook, most people gave me similar roles. After starting my character on stage, and then doing some of the best parts, I understand acting. And no artist with rational mind will ever accept doing the same thing again and again. Also, Khopadi was a character created by Saeed Mirza with great care. It was very different and humane, and the team nurtured it very lovingly. While everyone wanted to use me as a skull, I decided not to destroy the character. “

Sameer Khakhar confessed that when he reached out to friends, the work for which he returned to India was all based on his earlier work. Over the years, actors have been seen in other shows like Hasee Toh Phase, Jai Ho, Patel’s Punjabi wedding and TV shows Adalat, Sanjeevani. “No one can become a good actor by seeking work. I’m a bit old school too, and can’t sell myself. I do not understand how the market came to be. I am sure that people who know me and know about my work when they will do something for me.

And one of those people was filmmaker Sudhir Mishra, who gave him a small, yet performance-oriented part in the Netflix film Serious Men. Shekhar shared that Mishra was aware of his work, as he directed the second part of the nook. The actor said that Mishra called him and offered him the role of a minister, which he enjoyed playing.

Thespian further stated that he has no regrets because he thinks it would mean he has given up. Asked what kind of roles he wanted to do next, Khakhar said, “Any kind.” I have done all kinds of roles. I was even asked if I wanted to take up other aspects of filmmaking. But I’ve been an actor, and that’s what I’ve always wanted to do. “
