There is nothing like a holiday feast to get a healthy eating routine back on track, yet many families go for their holiday celebrations.in between Ubiquitous epidemic. If you want to make New Year’s resolutions to make healthier choices, a quick internet search will bring up a few dozen apps that aim to help you lose weight, stay healthy or focus on fitness. Before you download – or pay – anything, it is important to do some research.
A traditional-Loss program is weight watchers. After nearly 60 years, the program underwent a digital transformation and redeveloped itself as WW in 2018, focusing more on health and well-being than minimalist dieting when it comes to its marketing. Another app that has surfaced over the years is Noom, which has called itself “Weight Watchers for Millennials”.
However, there are other apps that you can use to track your diet and exercise – including some free apps that can be built into your phone, such asOr Apple Health – if you’re considering WW or Noom for your diet and fitness goals, here’s what you need to know.
WW has been around for decades, but it has leaps and bounds from hand tracking points. The program assigns points to foods and dishes and determines a certain amount of points for your day based on your height, weight and weight loss goals, rather than calculating your calories. You can search for foods or scan barcodes in the WW app.
You will track breakfast, lunch, dinner, and breakfast every day, the Monday of the week will be tracked through Sunday. You have daily points to use (a number that resets each morning). You also get extra weekly points to use, which gives you some wiggle room to go beyond your daily amount. You can exercise and activity (the app can sync with your Fitbit) and weight changes, try out WW recipes and check out WW-friendly restaurants. Within the last few updates, the app has created a more dynamic user experience with articles, quizzes, recipes and other features.
WW now offers three different plans to choose from: Blue (the traditional WW scheme, which gives you many daily points and some zero-point foods such as fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and eggs), Purple (gives you Provides fewer daily points) but more zero-point foods including whole grains) and green (gives you more daily points but fewer zero-point foods). You can switch plans at any time.
While every plan has zero-point foods, it does not mean that those foods contain zero calories, or that you should only eat those foods. Instead, the goal is to train you to make healthy food choices.
What I liked about Weight Watchers was that it was not like a diet. (And yes, I know how many times we’ve heard That😉 It’s not restrictive – it’s sustainable, and it’s about making better choices. This does not mean that you cannot have ice cream, it is just a suggestion that you have less ice cream or opt for frozen yogurt instead. I found the program easy to follow and effective when I committed to it. I like how you can help make the app a WW-friendly recipe based on the ingredients you already have with WhatsApp in your fridge feature.

I found that sometimes it is hard to stick to WW, especially on weekends and holidays. Meal planning is a staple. The more you put in the program, the more results you will see. I also find that it is heartening to see forums on the app to see real people’s weight loss milestones, everyday achievements and struggles, tips, tricks and more. It makes you feel less alone on your journey. This is beneficial when you hit your own milestone because WW sends you a little key to celebrate your progress.

You may have seen advertisements for the Noom show, but not the diet, on social media describing themselves as “a smart way to lose weight”. The service, which has been in operation for almost 10 years, includes stability and accountability. These are two things that can make or break health and fitness goals. In addition, the app focuses on teaching you about nutrition, and helps you pinpoint Why the You want to lose weight (which can be quite eye-opening).
When you sign up for Nome, you are assigned a coach, who will message you every few days to check on your progress. Sometimes the comments sounded vague, almost like it was an automatic message, but some of the messages I wrote to the coach were more specific to them. A good feature is that when you can get close to “falling off the wagon”, you can set this app. For example, I set my warning signs that I did not open the app that day, which prompted the coach to check in with me.
Coach and the way Noam “Schedule” Your Day was one of my favorite aspects. You are given a daily checklist with specific articles to read and quiz about health, food, fitness and nutrition. This may sound boring, but I appreciate the educational aspect that Noam incorporates into its program. My coach’s messages as well as daily articles made me feel that my weight loss journey had a bit more structure. You may like to refer back to any recipes, articles, and later.
Similar to WW, you associate your day meal with breakfast, morning breakfast, lunch, lunch, dinner and evening breakfast. You can set the time you usually have breakfast, and Noam will calculate the best time for you to eat your other meals in order to maximize fullness and improve your metabolism. You will get notifications later.
Unlike WW, with its number system, Noom calculates calories. How fast or slow you choose in the app to lose weight depends on how many calories Noam gives you in addition to the other Vital you input. Noam suggests experimenting to find a good balance for you. The lowest calorie intake by the app will be 1,200 for a woman and 1,400 for a male.
If you are unsure about weight, Noam suggests being healthy for you, then you can always consult a physician – which is important before starting any type of diet – especially if your health Has issues.
Nome sorts foods in red, yellow and green based on calorie density. Red foods are more processed, yellow meats and dairy and green foods are fruits, vegetables, etc. The app wants you to eat more “nutrient-dense” foods, which means fewer calories that are more filling. The color system takes into account a traffic light, which can help users take an extra second when reaching for a red meal, rather than choosing a green food. Some Nome critics have complained that some foods, even healthy versions, such as oatmeal, have also shown red flags.
Nome is primer compared to WOM: It costs $ 59 per month, but you get all the features mentioned above for your dollar. You can choose to buy months in “bulk” to help save money – two to eight months, or annually.

When it comes to choosing between WW and Noom, think about which program will work best for you and your lifestyle. Scientific studies support both programs: A 2016 study published in Scientific Reports examined approximately 36,000 Nome users, and found that the app consistently lost weight in 78% of people over a nine-month period. A study published in the Lancet Medical Journal in 2011 found that overweight patients reported by their doctors that WWE lost nearly twice its weight, as people received standard weight loss care in 12 months.
It is important to research both apps before you begin. Also, it is important to have your own inventory, keeping in mind why you want to lose weight. One of the things I liked about Nome is that it asked me why I am using the app. When I entered the answer, he asked why again. Another answer came from another as to why. With this I can examine myself and my objectives in depth. I recommend doing this even if you do not use Noom.
I used WW first, and then tried Noam, and it was a strange experience to go from zero-digit foods to counting calories again. It is important to remember that you cannot live on zero-point foods alone, but not all calories are bad.
Then, it comes down to which program you feel most comfortable with. Don’t be afraid to try both since a free trial, and if you don’t feel comfortable with something – either with the program, discontinue it or consult a doctor. WW has been around for a long time, but Noom holds a lot of promise. It went beyond “eat it, don’t eat it” and incorporated an educational element to maintain healthy habits. It is a bit more expensive, but includes more features. However, I found WW more forgiving and easier to follow.
The two apps seem to have learned something from each other – WW has taken some of Noum’s more bizarre, millennial-centric features and Noom has reduced some of the rigor of their program (like weighing in every day).
