Quick, what was the first portable gaming system Nintendo Designed
If you said “Game Boy” … solid guess, but not quite. For nearly a decade Nintendo released that iconic gray beast, creating Game & Watch – a collection of handheld devices, each dedicated to playing just one or two simple games and, sometimes, one Doubling as clock.
In another way hammering that nostalgia button from some other companies, Nintendo announced this morning that Game & Watch is making a modern, but limited-edition, comeback.
Released as part of the celebration around the 35th anniversary of Super Mario Bros., it is completely Mario themed – and, appropriately, called “Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros.”
With the original Game and Watch lineup, it seems that it may be very limited in the number of individual titles. On the official product page, Nintendo is mentioned Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2: The Lost Level (Or just ‘Super Mario Bros. 2’, as it was known in Japan), and is a Mario-skinned remake The ballThe first game and watch title that shipped back in April 1980. Three games in all … but seeing what we’ve seen with previous devices like this, I wouldn’t be surprised if fans opened it up and found it to be running a lot more than flat in no time .
A lot has changed in the forty (!) Years, so Nintendo is making some upgrades to the Game and Watch that probably look like today. For example, it received a full-color LCD, while the original displays were black and white – and you’d be able to charge it to USB-C instead of burning through a stack of button cell batteries. Nintendo says that it should last about 8 hours per hour.
When you’re not playing one of the included games, the thing turns into a slightly portable watch (thus the “& Watch” part of its name), which all has 35 different Mario themed scenes. . If Nintendo corrects that watch feature, I can earn these things a permanent place on the desk of a lot of people.
While Nintendo notes that this will be a “limited” run, they did not say how many of these they are making … and while pre-order details are “coming soon”, they are no more specific than that. . They do It will ship on November 13 with an MSRP of $ 50 … but other than that, if you’re worried about one of these, you’ll want to keep an eye out for more information.
