New Jack Dies, Legendary Hardcore Wrestler Was 58

Former pro wrestler Jerome Young, known to wrestling fans worldwide as hardcore wrestler New Jack, has passed away. Per PWInsider, Young’s wife Jennifer revealed that the former ECW star died of a heart attack at her home in North Carolina on Friday. He was 58 at the time of his death.

A WWE statement said, “With his fiery, competitive style, New Jack was known for pushing the boundaries of hardcore wrestling to its peak.” “Young entered the sports-entertainment circuit in 1992 with the Memphis-based United States Wrestling Association. Upon coming to the Smokey Mountain Wrestling Promotion, New Jack teamed up with Mustafa Saeed to form The Gangstas Tag Team.”

As part of The Gangstas, New Jack made his debut at EC in 1995, and due to the company’s extreme style, it was the place where hardcore wrestlers flourished the most. Gangsta’s feud with Public Enemy became a very popular event at the time, and New Jack later won the ECW Tag Team Gold medal alongside Mustafa and Eliminator John Cronus. With a penchant for using weapons on his opponents, New Jack has always been known to carry trash into a ring full of temporary weapons. He remained one of ECW’s best-known stars until the company’s closure in 2001.

Perhaps due to his violent nature, New Jack was never brought to wrestle on WWE television. He would wrestle in many other promotions throughout his career, including CZW, Extreme Rising, XPW, and TNA. He last wrestled in 2017 against his fellow ECW alumni CW Anderson and Shane Douglas. In one of his final matches, he teamed up with The Sandman and Justin Credible at the ECW Reunion Show.

New Jack’s reputation earned him recognition outside the wrestling business. He is referenced by Weiser in the 1996 single “El Scorco”. He also played the role of a biker in the TV series initial version in 2000. In 2013, he made a surprise appearance The daily show For the section titled “Stay Out of School”. 2004 video game Backyard Wrestling 2: Goes Neighborhood New also features Jack as a playable character. He was also featured in the video game’s over with Crazy Joker Pose’s violent Jay.

Just last year, New Jack was the subject of an episode of the acclaimed Vice TV documentary series Dark Side of the Ring. In an hour-long episode titled “The Life and Crimes of New Jack”, Young spoke of his status as one of the most feared and controversial pro wrestlers. It gave the best look yet on the man behind that dreaded wrestler and what he was thinking during some of his bloodiest matches.

A tweet posted by “RIP New Jack,” reads Dark side of the ring Twitter account. “We are grateful to you for telling your story. We have deep condolences to his friends and family.”

At this time, we send our condolences to Jennifer as well as the rest of Young’s family and friends. After a life filled with such extraordinary amounts of blood and mayhem, New Jack can now rest in peace. This news has come to us from PWInsider.
