If you have ever used a robotic vacuum before, you may find yourself wishing to spend more time on a specific area. Some iRobot Roomba devices have built-in dirt sensors, which are known to help them focus, but now that capability has improved even more. On Monday, August 24, iRobot unveiled the iRobot Genius home intelligence platform. This suite of features gives users never-before-seen levels of personalization, control over iBrot devices, and more.
This occurs in a redesigned iRobot Home App. iRobot improved the app in many ways to create a one-of-a-kind command center for all iRobot products for the user. The application not only gives more granular control of your devices, but it also breaks the performance of your cleaning tools.
One of the first reforms is the clean sector. It is available for Roomba i7 / i7 +, s9 / s9 +, and Braava Jet m6 robot mops. Through a clean zone, compatible devices can learn and suggest clean zones around specific items in the home, such as a couch, table, or kitchen counter. You can also open the iRobot app and designate your own clean zone via Smart Map. Doing so allows precise cleaning by saying “rumba, clean around the couch”. This is an easy way to clean an area that needs it without an order to clean the entire house.
iRobot has also improved scheduling features of Rumba and Brava Jet robots through automobiles, events that detect the device’s ideal start or stop time. You can link the iRobot Home app to local-centric services like Life360 or devices such as the August Wi-Fi Smart Lock to find out when you’re away. This allows appliances to clean the house without disturbing you throughout the day.
You can also create a preset cleaning routine through the custom feature. These routines focus on a specific area and time of day. For example, “After Breakfast” could instruct Rumba to vacuum around the kitchen table every morning around 8:30 when the family left for work and school. Your iRobot device will also suggest recommended cleaning programs based on your most common cleaning patterns.
Finally, there is also a new recommended keep-out zone feature that allows devices to learn troublesome areas where they often become impetigo and suggest users to create an out-zone. Thanks to the convenience of new seasonal recommendations, your appliances may suggest a need for more cleaning to the home due to seasonal allergies or pet shedding.
iRobot has always been one of the leaders in terms of robot vacuum AI, and these new features and additions show that the company is continuing to innovate and improve on what the company is doing only for its devices.
