Lenovo The memo seems to have found that real money is being made into the enterprise in the augmented reality space. Ahead of tomorrow’s CES Kick off, the hardware company announced the imminent arrival of ThinkRelicity A3, a pair of enterprise AR specs that followed the lead set by companies such as Epson and Microsoft.
The glasses are scheduled to arrive at some point in the middle of the year. There is no word from Lenovo on pricing – which is not surprising for an enterprise-only device. The headset sports a 1080p resolution powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR1 chip. A pair of Fish-Eye cameras provide motion tracking, while an eight-megapixel RGB camera provides video for remote use.
The device is designed for a PC or handful of Motorola (Lenovo-owned) phones via USB-C. The specs follow the announcement of the ThinkRelicity A6 head-mounted display, which provides a more traditional form factor (such as a traditional form factor for AR, I think).
“Certified turnkey applications on remote assistance, guided workflows, and 3D visualization of the think reality platform Power, for use in scenarios ranging from the company’s floors and laboratories to busy retail and hospitality space,” the company writes. “Now, industrial workers have a lightweight, flexible and scalable set of smart glasses to increase productivity and safety by reducing error rates in daily tasks.”
Lenovo clearly believes that the immediate future for AR lies in the enterprise space. The company has overtaken it in the consumer space with products such as the Star Wars JD Challenges headset, but for now at least, it seems to be somewhat off.
