Lana Condor: Inside My Self-Care Routine

Okay, that was cheese, but we’re very excited to bring you All the boys i have loved before Star’s wellness routine as part of our Wellness Wednesday series.

The 23-year-old is one of #Ariel’s role models and her self-care routine is the definition of real, with three things she does every day in her easy go-beauty routine.

But one thing Lana said is really stuck with us, especially when there is so much going on in the world? “We beat ourselves up all the time, comparing ourselves to others, feeling like we’re not enough, or we’re not enough,” she said. “And I always say that we need to be soft on ourselves. We need to talk to ourselves in such a way that we talk to our best friends or love someone.”

Self-love is also self-care and it is so important, so take care of time that you take care of yourself for others.

Here is Lana’s self-care routine, which includes her favorite method of sweating and her reading recommendations:

Three things you try to do each day and why do you think it is important to do this?

I try and study every single day. It affects me and makes me feel in control. And I love thriller novels, so it entertains me. I also think that the joy of daily reading keeps your brain active and your body calm. I drink at least half of my body, in ounces, of water every day. Staying hydrated is a must — and I actually feel better when my body is fully hydrated. And I walk two days, with my puppy, should always have one. Of course, for Amy, but also to keep my body active and fresh air always makes me feel better. Some days, when I’m having a very hard time waking up, I’ll go on an early Mirchi walk with Amy and it sets such a great energetic tone for the rest of my day.

The social media account you follow for positivity and what do you love about this account?

I like to follow @_hi_anxiety_. The account was created to help deal with anxiety. And what I love about it is that it created a safe space for people to hear and understand in their mental health struggles and not feel alone. They post daily affirmations and quotes that are so convincing. And they post tips and tricks to help you manage your mental health in a positive way.

Your favorite way to break a sweat right now:

Honestly, my favorite way to break a sweat is now playing VR. We got a virtual reality headset, just like everything was going off, and it was amazing during the quarantine. There are a lot of sports that make you sweat and this is great. I am really sore after my playing. I like to wear AERIE’s new high waisted biker shorts because there is a lot of breath and flexi, while making me feel safe and secure. When you are breaking a sweat, use it when going for VR or a run! I like to pair them with the new AERE Real “Free Tank Bralette” for extra support on top. Throw on one of their “distressed crew neck t-shirts” and you have a full, stylish, workout look!

Your go-to snack:

I want to eat canned oysters. I know this may sound strange, but I absolutely suffer from canned oysters. They are such a good source of protein, magnesium and vitamin C. They are very tasty and always fill me up. I eat them straight out of the can, but sometimes if I need some extra carbs, I’ll eat them with crackers and the crunch of the cracker with a soft oyster is so good!

Your go-to healthy recipe:

My go-to healthy recipe is always a nice piece of fresh salmon, Brussels sprouts and potatoes roasted in sunflower oil. Sometimes I’ll just put a little citrus and salt on my salmon, other days I’ll put some marinara sauce on the salmon, and it’s very tasty.

Your number 1 self-care tip:

I feel like a broken record, but HYDRATION, is the number one self-care tip I can give !!! Being really gentle and soft with him and myself. We beat ourselves up all the time, compare ourselves to others, feel like we are not enough, or we are not enough. And I always say that we should be kind and soft to ourselves. We need to talk to ourselves in such a way that we talk to our best friends or love someone.

You can’t go to bed without doing this:

I can’t go to bed without sleeping. I have a flossing addiction and if I miss even one day, I really can’t sleep!

For your enjoyment:

My go-to forever – Bhoga is any type of pasta, and lots of delicious chutney. However, I would not call it indulgence because I honestly eat pasta every single day. I definitely like to be cozy and comfortable when I indulge in a big bowl of pasta! I try and stay away from anything that has very large sleeves because I don’t want to accidentally put sauce on them! That’s why I like wearing this new “Easy Knit Midi Dress” from AERIE’s new collection. It is so comforting and breathable, whereas if I am having a big bowl of pasta for the night pasta, I am also looking effortlessly chic. I also like to style it to tie it down into a knot!

Your Go-To Beauty Beauty Routine:

Hydration is the key! I haven’t worn a ton of makeup lately, so skin care and hydration have been my everything. I start cleaning my face with my cleanser and face brush. Then I use a lemon wipe that I got in Korea, to make it shine on my face. Then I use my serum, moisturizer, and finally eye cream. I never get out of the house without the cream!

Your current feel-good song and why does it make you feel good?

My current favorite feeling is the good song “We Are Gonna Be Alright”. before leaving. I love this song because it gives me hope for the future. And in moments of panic it really soaked me.

What is happening to you right now:

It is still my peace to read with my puppy on my lap. It gives me great pleasure to have peace and warmth in my lap!
