Jupiter’s Legacy Had a Massive $200M Budget, Making It One of Netflix’s Biggest Bombs

Netflix isn’t going ahead with Season 2 of Legacy of Jupiter, which means that Mark Miller’s superhero show based on the comic of the same name will be another done-over venture. And an expensive one at that. As reports surfaced after the show’s unofficial cancellation, it is now revealed that it came with a massive $200 million budget. In a word? Ouch.

Jupiter’s legacy was meant to have multiple seasons and was seen as a way for Netflix to get into the superhero game, the way Amazon managed to do it with The Boys. Unfortunately, it didn’t end. As THR reports Borys Kit revealed on Twitter after the news broke, it was a truly disastrous business move for Netflix. In a series of tweets, here’s what he had to say about it.

The show holds a critical rating of about 38 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, but an audience score of a respectable 72 percent. Netflix still has a substantial investment in Millerworld. Other projects in the works in that universe include magic order and American Jesus as in the TV show, with reincarnation, empress, hawk, prodigy and Sharkey the Bounty Hunter In development as films.
