Filmmaker JJ Abrams has set Change Subject to Change as his next project in the streamer HBO Max.
The show is based on an original story by Abrams and will be produced by the filmmaker’s production banner Bad Robot.
Abrams, known for directing films such as the Star Trek series and two Star Wars installments, will pen the show with Jennifer Yale, who will act as a listener on the show.
The story is about a desperate college student who signs up for a clinical trial embarking on a wild, sorrowful, mind and reality-bending adventure.
Abrams said in a statement, “This is amazingly crazy yarn weaving with Jane, and I am grateful to her and all at HBO Max for the opportunity to bring this story to life.”
Sarah Aubrey, the head of original material at HBO Max, described the new show as a “complex, eye-opening thriller”.
“It will take viewers on an unexpected ride, showing the creative talent of JJ, Jennifer and the Bad Robot team,” he said.
The Bad Robot Association will produce at Warner Bros. Television.
Abrams and Yale will also serve as executive producers along with Ben Stephenson.
