FKA Twigs and Shia began dating after meeting on the set of the semi-autobiographical film Honey Boy written by Shia. This relationship lasted for about a year.
In December, FKA Twigs filed a civil lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court seeking unspecified damages for alleged sexual battery, assault and emotional distress under his birth name, Tahliah Barnett.
Shia later issued a generic apology and told the New York Times, “I am in no position to tell anyone how my behavior made them feel.” There is no excuse for my prohibition or aggression, only rationality. I have been abusive to myself and those around me for years. I have a history of hurting people closest to me. I feel ashamed of that history and I am sad that I am hurt. I really can’t say anything else. “
The lawsuit states that the Shias “are engaged in a continuous stream of verbal and mental abuse towards Tahlia, beating and humiliating her, as reported by Rael”
FKA Twigs took to Twitter and wrote, “You might be surprised to know that I was in an emotionally and physically abusive relationship. It was hard for me to even process, during and after this I never thought that would happen to me. This is why I have decided that it is important for me to talk about it and try to help people understand that when you are an addict or an intimate partner in control in a violent relationship a safe or achieving Doesn’t feel like a worthy option. “

He said, “I hope that by sharing my experience I can really help others feel that they are not alone and shed some light on how people who care about someone are a How can I help an abusive relationship because I think it can be confusing and difficult to do. “
Twiggs said he opened up about his work during COVID-19 because of rising cases of domestic violence. “The statistics on domestic abusive and intimate partner violence relationships are shocking and during Kovid, I have become really concerned because I know that many victims would literally be stuck with their riders on their way to no relief or exit. My second worst nightmare is being forced to share with the world that I have survived domestic violence. My first worst nightmare is not telling anyone and knowing that I could help just one person by sharing my story, ”she wrote.
Pop star Sia also appeared in support of FKA Twigs and broadened her experience while she was in a relationship with Shia. “I too have been emotionally hurt by a pathologist liar Shia who turned me into an adulterous relationship claiming to be a single. I believe he is very ill and has pity for him and his victims. Just know, if you love yourself- stay safe, stay away, ”she shared on Twitter.
In February, Shia’s lawyer said in a court filing that he “generally and specifically denies each and every charge.”
