Indian Idol 12: Manoj Muntashir apologises for ‘factual error’ regarding Shammi Kapoor, see his post

Manoj Muntashir, lyricist and screenwriter and a judge on Sony TV’s singing reality show Indian Idol 12, apologized for a factual mistake he made in the show’s latest episode.

In this episode, Muntashir is known for songs like “Tere Sang Yaara”, “Dil Meri Na Suni”, “Still Tumko Chahinga”, “Kaun Tujhe” as well as dubbed Hindi for Bahubali 2 and Black Panther Gaya also wrote dialogues, mentioning her relationship with Shammi Kapoor and his late wife and actor Geeta Bali.

Muntashir told an anecdote according to which Kapoor applied Geeta’s lipstick instead of sindoor for parting between her hair so that she could get married.

Talking to Rauf Ahmed for his book Shammi Kapoor: The Game Changer, Kapoor said, “When we reached the temple at the crack of dawn, Geeta took her goodbye salwar-kameez and I in my kurta-pajama, it was Was putting on cats and dogs. With Hari Walia as the sole witness, the pujari (priest) performed the ceremonial ritual and we took seven rounds (peremes) of the holy fire and were declared husband and wife. Geeta carried her purse. Took out a lipstick and asked me to apply my hair (part of hair) like sindoor (sindoor) to declare my marital status. ”

After talking about the anecdote, Manoj said that Shammi Kapoor never married again, but the truth is that he did. In 1969, four years after Geeta’s death, she married Neela Devi Gohil. Their marriage lasted until Neela’s death in 2011.

Muntashir wrote on Twitter, “You all love dear people, I am also a hard Hindi cinema fan. Sometimes fans make mistakes inadvertently. I apologize for a factual error in today’s Indian Idol episode. After the untimely demise of Geeta Bali ji, Shammi ji married Neela Devi. @ Sony TV (sic). “
