How to Connect a PS3 Controller to a PC

The PS4 has stolen the spotlight from the PS3, and will not go unnoticed before the PS5. This is still no reason to dig out your PS3 console or throw out your controllers. For gamers who enjoy playing on their PC, you can still make full use of your PS3 controllers.

Grab your controller, the PC to which you want to connect it with a mini-USB cable, and we’ll walk you through the process.

Part 1: Update Windows Driver and .NET Framework

A few things to keep in mind: Since you’re technically using Xbox 360 drivers to interact with the PS3 controller, the game will likely display an Xbox control scheme. When a game wants you to “press X”, you’ll want to hit the square button instead.

Note: As of January 2018, ScpToolkit is no longer in active development. Future Windows updates may make this an ineffective solution. However, even now, it is still a viable option.

Part 3: Create a Profile and Change Settings

If you are very inclined, you can fix your PS3 controller through the various applications included with ScpToolkit.

Phase 1: “Changeable” ScpToolkit Profile Manager Not installed by default. To get this feature, run the installer again to select this tool and “modify” your current installation. Then you will see a desktop shortcut and ScpToolkit Profile Manager added to ScpToolkit Folder on the Start menu.

Step 10: After your system restarts you will see another menu of options. To find out Disable driver signature enforcement, Then press the F7 key to restart your PC one last time.

Step 11: When your system starts again, go through the instructions above and reinstall and configure ScpToolkit.
