Guide to Merriest Nites at Disneyland

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. With the kids jingle belling and everyone telling you ‘Be of good cheer’! It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

It’s always a magical time when Guests enter Disneyland Park and are greeted by a giant Christmas tree. They walk down Main Street, U.S.A., and see snow on Sleeping Beauty Castle, wreaths on numerous windows, and characters wearing their holiday best. Celebrating the holidays at Disneyland Resort truly makes it the most wonderful time of the year.

While Christmas is always a special time at Disneyland Resort, this year, it will be even more special. Disney has announced that an all-new after-hours Christmas party will be coming to Disneyland Park! The event will be called Merriest Nites and will only happen for five nights during the holiday season.

Here is your guide to everything we know about Merriest Nites at Disneyland.

What is Merriest Nites?

Merriest Nites is a brand-new after-hours Disneyland Christmas event that will take place at Disneyland Park for select nights from November 11 until December 9. Here is some more information on the new event from the Disneyland website:

Our classic holiday favorites have some new twists! Mickey Mouse has invited many of his friends to host 6 themed parties throughout Disneyland Park on select nights—so you can celebrate the season in a merry new way.

During this separately ticketed holiday event, you can enjoy after-hours admission to Disneyland Park with limited capacity, including select attractions and entertainment, unique Disney Character sightings, A Christmas Fantasy Parade, snowfall on Main Street, U.S.A., themed photo ops, unlimited Disney PhotoPass digital downloads from the event, themed menu items, live bands, dance parties and the opportunity to purchase special event-themed merchandise!

What Type of Christmas Party is Merriest Nites?

What makes Merriest Nites so special and unique is that it is not just one party — it is actually six parties in one! Throughout Disneyland Park, different parties will be hosted by a number of fun Disney characters! Disney Parks Blog shared some more information on what Guests can expect at each of the six parties.

As the host of the party, Mickey Mouse will welcome you to the party on Main Street, U.S.A. with Victorian flair, and Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and their friends join in the fun, traveling in a special coach with Christmas carol sing-alongs, Muppet antics, and a few chickens! Over in New Orleans Square, Princess Tiana plans to ring in Noel with guests at her bayou-inspired celebration. In Frontierland, Miguel from the Disney and Pixar film “Coco” will be wishing everyone Feliz Navidad while you kick up your heels during a jolly dance-filled fiesta. Three more character-hosted holiday parties await you with a tropical party hosted by Lilo & Stitch in Adventureland, a wintertime celebration with Elsa in Fantasyland, and Buzz Lightyear taking the holidays to new heights over in Tomorrowland. Your friends and family will enjoy enhanced entertainment such as themed photo backdrops and character sightings, and themed specialty food and beverage offerings within the event.

What Special Events Will Be at Merriest Nites?

Disney’s Merriest Nites will not just be your typical Christmas party — or parties in this case. There will be a number of special happenings throughout the Park that Guests who do not attend Merriest Nites will not be able to experience.

Special Photo Opportunities

At this time, Disney has not revealed what types of photo ops will be at Merriest Nites, but we do know that there will be a ton of great photo opportunities. Disneyland PhotoPass Photographers will be all throughout the Park ready to take your photo in front of event-themed backdrops. What makes this even better? Your Merriest Nites ticket includes unlimited PhotoPass downloads, so pose away!

And don’t forget to ask the PhotoPass Photographers if they have any Magic Shots. Magic Shots can add something really special to your Disneyland photos and make them even more unique!

A Special Showing of A Christmas Fantasy Parade

Every holiday season, Disneyland Park will show A Christmas Fantasy Parade, so Guests can see the parade without going to Merriest Nites. However, A Christmas Fantasy is a very popular parade, so finding a good spot to watch can be hard if you don’t pick out a spot way before the show starts.

At Merriest Nites, the crowds will be much lower since this is a special ticketed event with limited capacity. Therefore, finding the perfect spot for you and your family or friends to watch the festive parade will be much easier, and you won’t have to worry about the massive crowds all trying to do the same thing.

Specialty Food and Merchandise

Disney can create delicious food and fun merchandise to go along with absolutely anything, and Merriest Nites will be no exception. Disney has announced that there will indeed be special food and themed merchandise that will only be available to Guests attending Merriest Nites.

You’ll have the opportunity to purchase holiday merchandise, including special Disney Merriest Nites-themed merchandise available during the event.

Feast on holiday treats with a twist! Enjoy event-inspired menu options like hot chocolate and cookies at select Disneyland Park locations.

Traditionally, Disney releases a food guide close to when the holidays are set to begin at Disneyland. When it came to Halloween Time, which began on September 3, a foodie guide to all of the yummy Halloween treats that would be available was released on September 2. Holidays at Disneyland are set to begin on November 12 — kicking off with the party on November 11, so we predict that the food guide should come out in the first or second week of November.

Inside the Magic will keep readers updated when Disney releases its highly anticipated holiday food guide, including any food or beverages that will be specific to Disney Merriest Nites.

What Are the Dates of Disneyland Merriest Nites?

Merriest Nites will be a very exclusive event that will take place at Disneyland Park. Even though holidays at Disneyland Resort will begin on November 12 and end on January 9 — which is about one week later than normal — there will only be 5 dates for Merriest Nites.

What Else Should I Know About Merriest Nites?

Can I wear a costume?

Typically, Guests over 14 are not allowed to wear full costumes when they visit Disneyland Resort. However, Disney makes special exceptions for its after-hours events, and costumes are encouraged! However, there are still some rules that Guests must follow. Here is what Disney has stated for costume guidelines for Merriest Nites:

  • All Guests may dress as their favorite character during the event, but may not pose for pictures or sign autographs for other Guests
  • Costumes must be family-friendly and may not be obstructive, offensive, objectionable or violent
  • Costumes may not contain any items that resemble (or could easily be mistaken for) an actual weapon
  • Costumes may not contain sharp/pointed objects or materials that may accidentally strike another Guest
  • Layered costumes or costume props that surround the entire body are strongly discouraged and may be subject to additional security screening
  • Costumes may not reach or drag on the ground (e.g., full-length Princess dresses)

Will Santa Claus be there?

Of course! It wouldn’t be Christmas without Santa Claus! Santa always makes an appearance in the Christmas Fantasy Parade, but according to Disney, it may be possible to see him during party hours and maybe even take a great, festive selfie.

Will the whole theme park be open?

While Guests will have access to a number of great attractions during Disney Merriest Nites, not all lands will be open during the after-hours event. Access to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Mickey’s ToonTown, and Critter Country will not be available during the party.

That means that popular attractions like Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run, and Splash Mountain will be closed during the party.

However, Guests will still be able to ride special holiday attractions like Haunted Mansion Holiday and “it’s a small world” holiday, so make sure to take advantage of those!

Will I have to wear a face mask?

Currently, all Guests must wear face coverings while indoors at Disneyland Resort, regardless of vaccination status. Face coverings are optional when outdoors, but Guests who are not vaccinated are encouraged to wear masks at all times. Disney will not ask for proof of vaccination or proof of a negative COVID-19 test before entering the theme parks.
