Little Women and Midsummer star Florence Pugh is set to star in a new adaptation of Emma Donoghue’s novel The Wonder. Donogue’s novel Room was adapted for an Oscar-winning film of the same name in 2015.
The Wonder 1859 revolves around a young girl in Ireland who stops eating, but still lives without illness. A nurse named Lieb Wright goes to the small village in the Irish Midlands to witness strange events. Ensuez is a historical drama, a psychological thriller, and a meditation on good and evil, Deadline reported.
A brilliant female director Sebastian Lelio will direct The Wonder from a screenplay by Alice Birch. Birch wrote the screenplay for the 2016 drama Lady Macbeth, also starring Pugh.
Production on the film adaptation will begin in Ireland in August.
Pugh will next be seen in Black Widow and Olivia Wilde’s Don’t Worry Darling.
