The casting of stand-up comic Chris Rock in the fourth season of Fargo promised a comedic tone and more humor than the first season, and the video clips so far confirm this belief. One of the teasers of the season features Rock as Loy Cannon, who promises that the Italian crowd is in the past and that the African-American crowd he leads will control the underworld of Kansas.
“They don’t know yet,” Loy promises. He has taken it upon himself to drive out the Italians in a city dominated for decades. The teaser, in true Fargo fashion, does not evoke a storyline beyond allegory and yet we see plenty of glimpses of that trademark idiosyncratic humor, as I said, dialed up a notch.
The teaser, like the previously released trailer, also promises a lot of action as a gang war looms between the Italians and African-Americans. There are knife-less, pistol-purpose ones, though all of this is ironic because it’s the fargo we’re talking about. Overall, it all sounds like fun.
Fargo is based on the Con Brothers film produced and acclaimed by Noa Havel.
Each season of Fargo is set at different times and locations. While the first season was set in 2006, the second season was set in 1979, the third season was set in 2010. But the fourth season would go back and forth – in the 1950s.
