Disney Channel, Disney XD and Disney Junior Are Going Away in the U.K.
Disney uk Is shutting down three TV channels aimed at content for children. Disney Channel, Disney XD and Disney Junior are all set to stop operations in the fall. This comes not long after the launch of the company’s streaming service Disney +, which will now be home to the content that used to reside on those channels.
The move will take place on October 1 with Disney +, a U.K. Will become the exclusive home for content from those channels. The decision came after Disney reportedly failed to reach a new agreement with TV providers Sky and Virgin Media. The Walt Disney Company said about it in a statement.
“The Direct-to-Consumer Service, which attracted more than 54.5 million subscribers worldwide in its first seven months, will now premiere all the latest movies, series and specials from three Disney channels, plus a rich and huge back catalog. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Scion 3 and Disney Channel titles including Phineas and Ferb in the UK. The Disney Channel was originally launched in 1983 and in the years that followed, has become a major part of the company’s operations. Disney Junior was recently launched, in 2011, with a focus on programming for young children. Meanwhile, Disney XD was launched in 2009 and is typically geared towards pre-teens and young teens. It has been suggested that financially beneficial deals for both parties were becoming increasingly complex. Somehow, this represents a major inning for streaming for Disney.
