Saath Nibhana Saathiya is set to start its next season. While new actors Harsh Nagar and Sneha Jain will play the new lead roles, Devoleena Bhattacharjee, Mohammad Nazim and Roopal Patel will reprise their roles from the first season. The show launched on Star Plus in 2010 and was successful for seven years.

In an exclusive interview with, Devolina Bhattacharjee opens up about Gopi coming back on TV, what Kokilaben video led to the new season and whether one can expect anything from Sathia 2.

Excerpts from the conversation.

How does it feel to incarnate Gopi once again?

This is a huge opportunity for me to be indifferent and sincere. Many actors do not get to reprise their iconic characters. When they asked me if I was interested, I was honestly very excited. I would not have liked to play the character of Gopi. This is a homecoming for me, as there is a certain comfort level with the team. Also Saathiya is a brand and it is very thrilling to bring it back to the audience.

It has been three years since the show went off air. Why do you think it is still so popular among the public?

It was a family drama of sorts, where the story focused on each character. I think it was the USP of the show. The mother-in-law relationship was really touching the audience. Saathiya was a very believable show and it certainly added to its popularity, as people were associated with its characters.

In the promo we see Gopi introducing a new character Gehna. In Saathiya 2 she is featured as the new lead, how much will we see you in the show?

(Laughs) Don’t worry, Gopi is. You will not miss him at all. I think every time a new character is introduced, Gopi or Kokila introduces them. Saathiya 2 is also a new show, with a different story and character. However, the show would be incomplete without the Modi family. I can’t tell a lot about the show, but trust me, it’s going to be a lot more fun.

Recently the Kokilaben video by Yash Raj Muhte created a lot of buzz. Is that what inspired a second season?

Of course not, we planned it long before that video. I think we were in discussion since last year. I had also signed my contract before the video went viral. However, I cannot deny that the video has generated a lot of buzz. Even during the lockdown, people made spoof and tikkok videos on its dialogues. We were surprised when Yash Raj released the video as we were about to shoot the promo then. I think someone needs that positive push, and the video that went viral indicated to me that the new season would do well.

What can we expect from Sathiya 2?

A lot of drama. As seen in the promo, Gopi had a major financial innings, and has now become very wealthy (laughs). This is a completely new journey and I am sure all Sathiya fans will enjoy the show.

Last year, your journey in Big Boss was incomplete after injuring yourself. Now that season 14 is about to launch, do you think you should have participated this year?

No, then I have to choose Bigg Boss or Saathiya 2. It would be terrible. I am thankful that I did the show last year, as it became the most successful season. Everything that happened was destined and I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. And I think I was meant to do Sathiya 2 this year. So it was not a bad deal.

Saath Nibhana is set to launch Saathiya 2 in October, a criterion of life on Star Plus.
