Dadasaheb Phalke Awards: Akshay Kumar wins for Laxmii, Sushant Singh Rajput honoured posthumously

The award season 2021 continues as the Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival Awards performed the best in film, television, music and OTT on Saturday. From Deepika Padukone, Akshay Kumar and Sushmita Sen to famous actors Surabhi Chandna and Nora Fatehi, last year, domestic artists took home awards for their work.

Deepika won the Best Actor (Female) award for her performance in Meghna Gulzar’s film Chhapak, which told the story of Laxmi Aggarwal, an acid attack survivor. His co-star Vikrant Massey won Best Actor in a supporting role for his turn in the critically acclaimed drama written by Atika Chauhan.

Akshay Kumar was adjudged Best Actor (Male) in the horror-comedy Lakshmi, a remake of the hit Tamil film Kanchana (2011). Akshay’s co-star in the film, Kiara Advani, won for her performance in the Netflix film Gullet.

Kiara took home critics’ choice for Best Actor (Female) for the role of a college girl whose internal trauma from sexual abuse as a child takes the form of misunderstanding when her boyfriend is his batchmate Commits rape Doshi Ruchi was directed by Narayan and produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions.

A blissful Kiara thanked the jury and its audience for the honor. “Best Actress Award for my first Critical Choice #Guilty ou Thankyou for this prestigious honor @Thankyou @karanjohar @ruchinarain @somenmishra @ apoorva1972 @dharmatica @netflix_in and my entire team! And to attract all of you to me, my heart is very full, ”Kiara wrote on Instagram with a photo of her trophy.

Sushant Singh Rajput, who died last year, was posthumously awarded as Critic’s Best Actor (Male) for his outstanding contribution to Hindi cinema. Sushant’s last film was Nitesh Tiwari’s hit friendship drama Chhichhor in 2019.

The Best Film Award went to Ajay Devgn-Saif Ali Khan starrer film Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, which also became the highest box office grosser of 2020. Starring Kajol, the period film was directed by debutant Om Raut and produced by T-Series.

Anurag Basu, including Abhishek Bachchan, Sanya Malhotra, Rajkumar Rao and Fatima Sana Sheikh, were honored as Best Directors for their black comedy, Ludo. Radhika Madan bagged the Best Actor Award in a supporting role for her performance in Homi Adjani’s Drunk English Medium, which co-starred the late Irrfan Khan.

Surabhi Chandna and Dheeraj Dhupar won the Best Actor (Female) and (Male) awards for their brilliant work on the small screen. Dheeraj’s horoscope Bhagya won the best television show honor.

Director Hansal Mehta’s blockbuster show Scandal starred Prateik Gandhi in 1992 as the infamous stockbroker Harshad Mehta, who inadvertently received the best series award.

Sushmita Sen bagged the Best Actor trophy in a web-series (Female) for her stunning performance in the Disney Plus Hotstar show Arya. While Bobby Deol was declared Best Actor in a web-series (Male) for Ashram directed by Prakash Jha.

Bobby, whose career has received a new lease of life with OTT, expressed his happiness through an Instagram post featuring his mother. “To be in the moment with my mother, ”he wrote with a photo of his mother hugging and looking at her fondly as he stood with his trophy.

Kunal Kemmu won the Best Actor Award for his hilarious role in last year’s comedy Lootcase. The actor dedicated his win to the film’s team.

It was a special night for Bobby Deol for more than one reason as father and veteran actor Dharmendra was honored for his contribution to Hindi cinema in a career spanning several decades.

Nora Fatehi, who continuously mesmerized audiences with her dance moves, was awarded the Best Performer Award at the ceremony. Glad to see recognition, Nora wrote on Instagram that the award has been made by all Bleeding knees, back injuries, bruises, cuts, sleepless nights were all worth it. ”

The actor-dancer also wrote that the honor would encourage him to do more “performance-oriented” songs and films and he was sure he would soon receive the best actor award.
