Bethesda Buyout Gives Microsoft a Huge Next-Gen Advantage

The day before pre-order goes live for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, it announces the surprise acquisition of Bethesda Softworks, immediately solidifying its central strategy for the next generation – while putting Sony back on the defensive .
While some Sony exclusives will remain in place for the PlayStation 5, they will probably last for some time – and Xbox is likely to get (at least) the Time Console on the much larger games that are in the pipeline, including Starfield And Elder Scrolls VI.
Those games alone could be a tremendous draw for the company’s next-generation console.
For Microsoft, the series is in line with the trumpeted strategy since the early days of its announcement. Games are no longer a product for the company – they are a service.
The Xbox game pass is not Microsoft’s generation-by-generation weapon. Sony has shown a more extensive selection of launch games for the PS5, but Microsoft has always kept its eyes on the long-term, hoping to produce models like Netflix at the same price.
To force this, however, Game Pass needed a strong content library – whether it was built by Microsoft itself or purchased from partners. Now the company is doing both.
The amount that Microsoft raised for Bethesda underscores how important the company was to its overall strategy. In 2014, it paid $ 2.5 billion Minecraft Manufacturer Mojang. Monday’s deal was worth $ 7.5 billion.
For perspective, that is $ 3.5 billion more than what Disney paid for Star Wars Empire rights.

Anytime the developer of the wildly popular franchise is acquired, there is a natural (and understandable) response from the community of amputations and concerns. However, Microsoft has a track record, which may indicate that those concerns have been raised.
Six years ago, Microsoft bought Mojang. Fans feared the most, but Minecraft At that time both are playing multiples for each other. And even the most ardent opponents acknowledged that Microsoft’s purchase proved positive.

Whether it is streaming services like xCloud or bundled subscriptions like Game Pass, PlayStation Plus Collection, UPlay + or some other collection, the way people play the game is experiencing a paradigm shift.
And by bringing talented developers and AAA franchises under its wing, Bethesda and its wings, Microsoft is in a position to make itself the leader of a new kind of industry.
