Let’s talk about chargers. They are, possibly, the least exciting thing about computers. Don’t get me wrong, they are necessary, obviously but when was the last time you really found out about one?
And yet, here I am, the tech blogger man telling you that today is the first day of your charger-loving life. Why? Due to three alternately casing letters: GaN. Back at CES, I wrote a title titled “Gaen Chargers Still Worth Being Excited.” I stand near it. And you will also stand by GaN.
This is short for gallium nitride, the main thing you need to know about this is that it has allowed accessory manufacturers to jam multiple wattage into a surprisingly compact footprint. I was very pretty with them since Anchor already took over from the 30w Powerport Atom. It wasn’t the world’s fastest charger, but it did the trick for the 13-inch MacBook, which was slightly larger than the charger that works with the iPhone.
These days, however, I’ve lost about a 15-inch laptop, so 30 watts isn’t really going to do much. In fact, you will actually see the battery drain when plugged. I tried a few new adapters at this year’s CES, as well, but none really itchy. Auki’s $ 55 OMNIA 100W PD charger, on the other hand, is quite close to my beloved place.
It is half the size of an Apple-owned charger, sharing almost the same footprint as the Google Pixelbook adapter, which I’ve been running for a few years. But that’s just a modest 45w. Heck, it’s far more powerful than the 96w model that Apple sells for the 15 and 17-inch models.
The size is ideal, however, due to the fact that it was not attempted to stick another port on it. This is a device-at-a-time charger, which is perfectly fine for most of my needs, and it is going to be a permanent place in my bag until the time when I am able to start traveling again .
I would say that it is surprisingly heavy for its size. It is a dense small charger. It stays in all my wall outlets, but is going to be a test to see if it stays in Delta’s infamous loose seat charger. My suspicion is that it is most likely not – so that I have a major strike against it for my own repeated visits. The good news is that these companies also get a smaller model every four to six months.
Meanwhile, it’s a very good option if you’re looking for a much higher fee in a smaller footprint, $ 24 less than Apple’s 96w model.
