Superstar Kamal Haasan may have lost the Battle of Coimbatore South in the recently concluded Tamil Nadu assembly elections, but for actor-daughter Shruti Haasan, it is her fighting spirit that she will always be proud of. Soon after the Tamil Nadu election results were announced, Shruti took to Instagram on Sunday to show affection for her father.
Kamkal Haasan, the leader of Makkal Nidi Maim, had to face defeat in his first election. Initially lagging behind BJP’s National Women’s Wing leader Vanathi Srinivasan gained momentum in the second half of the day and defeated the Tamil actor by a margin of over 1,300 votes. Posting a picture of her father on Instagram Story, Shruti Haasan wrote, “Always proud of my appa. #Fighter # trimmer
In Coimbatore (South) constituency, there was a three-way fight between Haasan, Vanathi and Congress candidate Mayura S. Jayakumar. In the first few hours, Jayakumar gained some momentum but Haasan quickly took the lead. The competition then looked like an easy end for the Tamil superstar until Vanathi made the inrode. From the afternoon onwards, votes flowed like a pendulum between the BJP and the MGM. By the 22nd round, Haasan was leading the competition, but from there, Vanthi never looked back.
On the acting front, Kamal Haasan has a number of interesting projects – Fahad Faasil with Lokesh Kannaraj’s Vikram and S. Shankar’s action thriller Indian 2, which is the sequel to the actor’s 1996 film.
