Amazon’s 2020 Hardware Event: Everything Announced

In recent years, Amazon has evolved from an online retailer to an online retailer, which also manufactures hardware. And, like any other hardware company, it means organizing an annual event to showcase its latest and greatest technology. Amazon’s latest hardware event is today, and we are expecting that Amazon will showcase its latest Alexa devices, ring devices, and more.

Unfortunately, Amazon is even just an invite – so you may not like it like you would be able to do with an Apple event or Google’s upcoming event. That is why we have put together this roundup.

We are updating this roundup as the event happens, so if you are interested in Amazon’s latest devices, check back every time.

Amazon Echo

Amazon has completely redesigned the Amazon Echo. The new device favors a new circular design with a cylindrical design found in Eco speakers from the beginning. The standard Echo now also has the advantages of the previous generation Echo Plus – a ZigBee smart home hub and a sidewalk bridge. This means that you do not have to pay extra cash for a more expensive device to get smart home connectivity according to your requirement.

The new Echo is also more powerful. It is powered by Amazon’s new AZ1 Neural Edge processor, designed for faster machine learning. This means that it should respond to your voice faster, and control smart home appliances faster. And like the previous-generation Echo speaker, it’s relatively inexpensive – coming in at just $ 100. It is available for pre-order today with shipping starting “later this year”.

Amazon Echo Dot

The new Amazon Echo Dot is also getting a design refresh. The Echo Dot looks very much the same as a full-size Echo, except for the smaller one. It does not have the same smart home hub features, but Amazon says it will provide fuller frequency response than previous generation devices.

There is also an Echo Dot Kids Edition, which provides more fun designs and is designed to help children with their homework, set alarms, and the like. It also supports parental controls and separate voice profiles – so the device can automatically switch between the responses that parents and children would give.

The new Echo Dot comes in at $ 50, while both the Echo Dot with the watch and the Echo Dot Kids version are $ 60. They are available for pre-order today, and Amazon says shipping will begin “later this year.”

Amazon Echo Show 10

Then there is the new Amazon Echo Show 10, which is made to show that you have no need for where you are in the room. The display on the device can actually swivel around, and it will follow you across the room – so you’ll always be able to access it when you need to. The motor is built to be quiet, so you can’t really hear it when it turns on, and like the previous generation Echo Show 10, it has a 10-inch display and Alexa is built into it. It also has a 13-megapixel camera for better video calling. According to Amazon, everything processed on the device is local – so it will not be beamed up to the cloud.

Amazon has also added several video services to the Echo Show. For example, it supports both Zoom and Netflix, so you can watch videos while cooking, and participate in a zoom call when you’re not on the computer. And, you can use the Alexa app even when you don’t have a camera, which gives the device security camera-like features.

The new Echo Show will be available for $ 250, and Amazon says it will begin shipping “in time for the holidays”.

Amazon Luna

Like Apple and Google before it, Amazon is entering the game-streaming world. The new service is called Luna, and Amazon says it is a cloud gaming service designed to play instantly. There is also a huge range of games available for Luna, including, it seems, some AAA-like titles Control, Resident evil 7, even more. Is also partnering with Ubisoft for titles like Amazon Assassin’s Creed: Vallah, Luna + Channel is available for $ 6 per month.

Along with the actual service, Amazon is also rolling out a controller for Luna. The controller provides all the buttons and controls you’d expect from a game controller, but under the hood it offers Amazon Cloud Direct technology – meaning it connects directly to Amazon’s servers rather than your local device. This helps cut latency, and means that whenever you move to a new device, you don’t have to reconnect the controller. The starting price for the controller is $ 50.

Luna Fire will be available via TV, PC, Mac, and web apps on iPhone and iPad. Amazon says it will support Android “soon”. Customers can now request early access to the service, but there is no word yet on when it will launch in full.

Amazon fire tv

Amazon’s Fire TV lineup also has some updates. For starters, Fire TV in general is getting a very prominent user interface update to provide a more personalized and more intuitive experience. Now, users will be able to add multiple profiles to their device, which allows Amazon to recommend different content for different users. It also supports features such as picture-in-picture mode, and a new Alexa interface that won’t necessarily take the whole screen based on what you ask. This means that you can watch and interact with Alexa at the same time.

There is also a new Fire TV Stick. The new device offers a new quad-core processor that Amazon says is 50% more powerful than the previous generation model, and it supports a 5GHz Wi-Fi network for better connections. Not only that, but you will get Dolby Atmos support and volume control directly from the remote for TV, soundbar and receiver. The new Fire TV Stick is available for $ 40, and will start shipping in some countries next week.

Then there is the new Fire TV Lite, which is also cheaper than a standard Fire TV. It supports a Full HD resolution – so you won’t get 4K video – but it still supports HDR and has a new remote, called Alexa Voice Remote Light. The Fire TV Stick Light comes in at $ 30.

Ring Always Home Cam

The Amazon-owned ring also has some updates. Namely, the company is getting into … drones? The new Ring Always Home Cam is essentially a security camera in a drone that flies around your home when you’re not there. This is perfect for things like checking if the oven was left out. The device can fly around a pre-determined path, and will fly to specific locations combined with a ring alarm when an alarm sensor is switched on. The camera only records in flight, and docks it when it is not in use. The actual camera has a 1080p sensor. Battery life on the device is only around five minutes, but Amazon says it is designed to make about one minute trips at a time.

The device comes in at $ 250, and will be available in 2021.

Ring Car Safety Products

The next major front car for the ring is safety. There are three new ring car security products, with the first ring being the car alarm. The car alarm plugs into the OBD II port of a car, which is 99% of the cars on the road, and can alert you in the event of a break-in, your car being towed, or being hit. is. It supports integration with other Ring and Alexa products, so, when an event occurs, it can send an alarm via Alexa. The device connects via the new Amazon Sidewalk Shared Network, which is launching later this year. The car alarm will come in at $ 60, and will be available in 2021.

Next up is the Ring Car Cam, which is a security camera that is on your car and monitoring you when you are not there. The device also monitors for bumps and attempts for break-ins, and connects to Wi-Fi or LTE if you get an optional connectivity scheme. The car cam also supports Alexa, and can request help from first responders in the event of an accident. It also has a new traffic stop feature, with which users can ask the camera to record a traffic stop and send it to the cloud. The car cam will come in at $ 200 starting in 2021.

Last but not least is Ring Car Connect, which supports specific cars, starting with Tesla, and allowing users to view footage from their car’s built-in cameras directly from the Ring app. The service is an API rather than an actual device, so it will only support certain car models – although more cars, with the launch of cameras, are expected to increase the number of supported cars.

Ero 6 and Ero Pro 6

Amazon-owned Ero was expected to launch updates to its router, and did so during an Amazon event. The major update here is that the Ero 6 and Ero Pro 6 support the new Wi-Fi 6 standard, and they support simultaneous connectivity to up to 75 devices simultaneously.

The Eero Pro 6 is a tri-band mesh router with a built-in ZigBee smart hub. A single router has two odd covers of 2,000 square feet, with two covers of 3,500 square feet, and three covering 6,000 square feet on a large scale.

The standard Eero 6 is designed for homes with connections up to 500Mbps. Its coverage is slightly smaller at 1,500 sq ft, although a two-pack can cover 3,000 sq ft and a three-pack up to 5,000 sq ft. It also has a Zigbee Smart Hub like the Pro model.

The Eero 6 starts at $ 129 for a single-pack, or $ 199 for a two-pack, or $ 279 for a three-pack. The Eero Pro 6 starts at $ 229 for a device, $ 399 for a two-pack, or $ 599 for a three-pack.

Update to alexa

Alexa is going to be completely smarter. Amazon is launching updates that help Alexa learn better, listen better, and respond better. Now, if Alex does not understand a command, it will ask for clarification – and remember your response to future commands.

Not only that, but Alexa can also now respond to commands without a user, which necessarily uses the word wake at all times. Amazon, one of the demos, asked Alexa to “join the conversation”, after which Alexa uses machine learning to find out who it’s being talked to, and the tasks that need to be done. This is a very impressive update, and should communicate naturally with Alexa which is a little easier.

There are other updates. Alexa guards will now listen for more voices, including things like a barking dog, a crying baby and the like. And, the company has announced “Guard Plus”, which can wisely protect your home by doing things like playing the sound of a dog barking above the speaker when it sees someone walking outside your door. The new Guard Plus service is $ 4.99 per month.

Amazon is taking Alexa’s privacy more seriously. Now you can ask Alexa to delete all recordings you have, and Amazon says it will ask you to review your privacy settings.
