With Yash Raj Films announcing their slate for the year 2021 on Wednesday, Akshay Kumar and Manushi Chillar’s period drama Prithviraj is all set to clash with Shahid Kapoor’s film Jersey on Diwali this year. With the schedules of the films and the shooting the havoc of the coronovirus epidemic, 2021 seems like a busy year. The business is keeping its fingers crossed that the situation will return to normal and viewers will continue to curb big-ticket films ready for release in theaters. Now that the shooting of the film has resumed and the cinemas are open for business, the box office clash is already continuing.
Apart from Prithviraj and Jersey, four other big banner films will also be fighting against each other at the box office this year.
Let’s look at these films:
Prithviraj vs Jersey
After wrapping up the jersey in January, Shahid Kapoor announced that his sports-drama, Jersey, would hit theaters on 5 November during Diwali weekend. Is a remake of the 2019 Telugu hit film of the same title starring Jersey Nanny. It was directed by Gautham Tinnanuri.
Akshay Kumar had earlier announced that his film, Raksha Bandhan, would be released on November 5, but now that film has been delayed. YRF announced its slate of films for 2021 on Wednesday, and Prithviraj, starring Akshay Kumar and Manushi Chillar, is also scheduled for a Diwali release. Both of these films are expected to do well, as both actors have a devoted fan following, and a celebratory release has clearly served for star-studded films.
RRR vs Maidan
Two of the much-awaited films, SS Rajamouli’s RRR and Amit Sharma’s Maidan, both starring Ajay Devgn, are set to release during the festival of Dussehra. RRR also stars Alia Bhatt, Jr. NTR and Ram Charan and is scheduled to hit theaters on October 13, while Mayday will be released on October 15.
After the success of the Bahubali franchise and its all-India race, RRR hopes to attract nationwide attention. Madhyan, meanwhile, is a multi-starrer sports film based on the golden age of Indian football (1952–62), which highlights the heroic works of Syed Abdul Rahim.
When SS Rajamouli announced that RSR would release on Dussehra, Maidan producer Boney Kapoor kicked him out and accused him of a lack of quarrel between Indian filmmakers. He also called the move “immoral”.
Radhey: Your most wanted brother vs Satyamev Jayate 2
In January, Salman Khan took to social media to announce the release date of Radhey: Your Most Wanted Bhai. He had shared on Twitter that his film Radhey: Your Most Wanted Bhai Eid will be released in theaters. Several film distributors and exhibitors wrote to superstars to help single-screen cinema halls revive coronovirus-inspired lockdowns.
A few days later, on Republic Day, actor John Abraham announced that his upcoming film, Satyamev Jayate 2 would be released on Eid. Directed by Milap Zaveri, the film also stars Divya Khosla Kumar. Speaking of the skirmish, John had previously stated that with several films up for release, Lashes was unavoidable.
He had said, “We are releasing two films on the same day. There is enough space, and viewers will get a chance to choose from two good films. “
