Ajay Devgn’s sports-drama Maidan, which was earlier to be released in November, will now hit theaters on August 13, 2021.
2021 Independence Week. An untold story that will make every Indian proud. Mark the date as August 13, “Devgan announced on his Instagram account.
The film, portraying the golden years of Indian football, will feature Ajay Devgn as legendary football coach Syed Abdul Rahim. Rahim served the Indian football team from 1950–1963 as a coach and manager. It was under his guidance that the Indian football team won the gold medal at the 1962 Asian Games and also led the team to the semi-finals of the 1956 Melbourne Olympics.
Talking about the film, Devgan told PTI that Maidan had been a “very moving and emotional journey” for him. “It is a fantastic story, director Amit Sharma has done a great job. Times have changed, the story has changed. Today no film has intentionally added commercial elements, be it lyrics or romantic angles. Maidan has been a very moving and emotional journey for me, ”added the actor.
Apart from Ajay Devgan, the film also stars Priyamani, Gajraj Rao and Rudranil Ghosh.
Produced by Zee Studios, Boney Kapoor, Akash Chawla and Arunav Joy Sengupta, the film marks the first collaboration between Ajay Devgn and Badai Ho director Amit Sharma.
