The kid detective Is a noir crime drama with an engaging crime and an absolutely mindless climax. What begins as a story about a washed-up investigator in a small town takes a dark turn with many surprising revelations. The plot builds tension with a slow boil. There are some points in the film where you wonder what the heck is really going on. But the ascent is efficiently placed. Setting the key clue to a final act bombshell, which will delight the audience.
The kid detective Takes place in the seemingly sleepy suburban town of Willowbrook. Adam brody Abe stars as Applebaum, a private investigator in a grim life. He drinks heavily, consumes drugs heavily, and is oblivious to the day of the week. His parents (Wendy Cruson, Jonathan Whitaker) worry because his life spiral is out of control. His Goth Office Secretary (Sarah Sutherland) considers him a joke. Abe Applebaum is a broken man in every sense of the word.
The film achieves astounding success as a detective of twelve-year-old Abe (Jesse Noah Gruman). He was a prodigy. Solving trivial school robberies first, then graduating to major local crimes. The city treated her like a celebrity. Abe’s friend and schoolmate, fourteen-year-old Gracie Gulliver (Catiline Chalmers-Rizzetto), disappeared without a trace when everything changed. Everyone hoped that Abe would solve the mystery of his disappearance, but he could not. The failure destroyed his confidence and standing in the community.
Currently, a local teenager is viciously stabbed. His girlfriend, sixteen-year-old Caroline (Sophie Nelise), hires Abe to find his killer. Abe, at this point, takes the case with hopes of grandeur, a local joke. Everyone around him warns that this is a serious mistake. He is not qualified or competent to solve such a terrible crime. Abe’s discovery in the boy’s life leads to a frightening conclusion. Willowbrook’s darkest secrets are finally brought to light.
Adam Brody mesmerises as a lost soul struggling to reclaim glory. The kid detective It takes time to establish Abe’s character and background. His poles are both sad and hilarious. Laughs are laughable, snarky moments. The man is in epic free fall. Abe questions everything about himself. He thought he had talent and purpose, but is that all? Was he at a peak in childhood? Abe’s reverberation with his abilities forces him to re-examine his past. He learns that ego can cause serious mistakes in his youth.
Director / writer Evan Morgan is brilliant in his feature film debut. He establishes a difficult mystery without resorting to theatrics. There is no smoking gun moment or obvious villain. Abe has to do the ground work, become a thorough investigator, to understand the scope of what is happening. It is not an easy feat while fighting your important personal demons. Morgan explores many topics with one touch. He sprinkles breadcrumbs for Abe, but the Chloé character evolves to find out their relevance. The result is an end that will knock your socks off.
The kid detective There is a diamond in the rough. This is a short film that is worth watching. It takes a little while to heat up, but once done it delivers on all fronts. Avoid spoiling at all costs. The final scenes were hit like a freight train. I actually had to watch it twice to absorb the effect.
