5 Pankaj Tripathi characters that deserve their own spin-offs

Over the years, Pankaj Tripathi has emerged as one of the most promising actors. Not just in films, Tripathi has also made a mark in the web space and, combining the two mediums, he will soon be seen in the lead role in Satish Kaushik’s film Kagaz which is set to premiere on ZEE5 on 7 January.

Tripathi’s credible performances have often reminded viewers that this is not the length of the role, but its execution makes a lasting impression.

Talking about his credible performances, here are five characters played by Pankaj Tripathi that deserve his own spin-off.

1. Sultan of Gangs of Wasseypur

Pankaj Tripathi appeared in some commercials, TV shows and films before the release of Gangs of Wasseypur. However, it was his role as Sultan under the direction of Anurag Kashyap that brought him into the limelight. Sultan Qureshi is the head of the Quraysh clan as he fights against Sardar Khan to increase his dominion over Wasseypur. The Sultan is the one who eventually kills Sardar Khan, giving him an important role in the larger scheme of the story. Even though we saw Sultan for decades in this film, a story of his life as a butcher would make for an interesting spin-off.

2. The Rudra of Streece

Although Pankaj Tripathi had a cameo in the film, he was completely moved. It is Tripathi’s Rudra who knows about the backstory of Stree, and he narrates it in a very comical way. It will be fun to see his character as the protagonist in the sequel. His association with the overlooked ‘Shema’ was one of the highlights of Stree and it can be explored more in the sequel.

3. Practice of Massan

Sadhya is another memorable character played by Pankaj Tripathi. Sadhya meets Richa Chadha’s goddess as they start working next to each other at the railway station. We learn about Sadhya’s life in a scene where he shares his sweets with Devi and talks about her simple home life with her father. A slice-of-life story around the dusk of worldly life would make for an interesting timepiece.

4. Anarkali of Ara’s Rangeela

In Ara’s Anarkali, Pankaj Tripathi plays Rangeela, an ever-supporting confidant of Anarkali who wants to save her from the evils of society. While Ara’s Anarkali followed Anarkali’s journey, it would be interesting to know more about Rangeela’s journey in a spin-off.

5. Principal Srivastava of Nil Batte Sannata

This was the first role where the audience got to see the comic side of Pankaj Tripathi. In Nil Batte Sannata, Tripathi plays the role of a strict mathematics teacher, who swells in many of his scenes at school, where he is teaching swara ka chanda. A comedy series that revolves around the school run by Srivastava will be truly entertaining.
