The Chrysler Pacific Minivan gets a number of updates for 2021, including a fancy new Pinchal trim, upgraded technology and some styling tweaks. Pacific Hybrid Returns, plus, it is available in the van’s lineup. If you’re looking for minivan functionality with a major boost of efficiency, this is a seriously compelling option – with a big caveat.

Plug-in hybrids are great because they provide real electric range in addition to the easy convenience of being a gas engine. Chrysler says that the Pacific Hybrid can travel 32 miles on battery power alone, which is sufficient for most people’s commute. The problem is, Pacific does not let you choose to use battery power. Most plug-ins will give the driver the option to choose this themselves – for example, you can use electricity in the city but run a gas engine on the highway where it is most efficient. In the Pacific, however, the 16-kilowatt-hour battery spends its juice right from the get-go, and when it runs out, the van switches to the standard hybrid, smaller volume in the 3.6-liter V6 Connects electrical support to.
Chrysler says its research suggests that customers don’t want to worry about switching between modes and want the system to be really simple. So my question is why make it a plug-in? If I have to plug the van into a Level 2 charger for two hours, I want to be able to use EV power with full conditions.

During a week of testing, I saw an average of 29.2 miles per gallon. I covered 67.7 miles of electrical and 316.8 miles of gas engines, which were carrying heavy loads. If I was able to use those battery miles, I could probably do better than 29.2. The EPA gives the 2021 Pacifica Hybrid equal to 82 miles per gallon or a combined fuel economy rating of 30 mpg, or when you’re only dependent on the gas engine. This is a very good increase on the gas-only Pacific’s 22-mpg combined rating, but again, it can do better. For example, the hybrid-only Toyota Siana does not use a plug-in setup, and is mated to 36 mpg all the time.
Despite this plug-in frustration, the Pacifica Hybrid is great to drive. The electrically continuous variable transmission is incredibly smooth, and the extra weight of the battery in the middle of the van’s floor reduces the center of gravity, which helps with handling. Chrysler says the total combined output of the plug-in hybrid system is 260 horsepower, which is enough, and is only available with front-wheel drive. If you want a hybrid with all-wheel drive, check the Toyota Sienna. Nevertheless, during the first major thunderstorm of California year, the Pacific Hybrid is ensured and the rain-sensing wipers react quickly to changes in intensity.
Inside, my Pacific Limited has a Red S appearance package with rodeo red leather seats in all three rows. I personally like the uncompromising sporty red leather in a minivan, but those with more traditional tastes might think it’s a bit much. The second row captain’s chair is comfortable but I want the seat to be high. Sitting here, I feel like my knees are very close to my ears. The pass-through for the third row is wide enough for me to return my adult-sized butt, and the seats are surprisingly attractive. I’ll sit back on a road trip there. really.
The boomer here is that Pacific’s super-cool stove-n-go seats, which are completely flat in the floor, are not available with plug-in powertrains. This is where the battery rests, so there is no way to stow the bottom seats. You also can’t get a Pacific Hybrid with Van’s in-built vacuum cleaner, so be prepared to take those Cheeros by hand. Spare tires, heated second row seats and towing setup are a no-go, as well.
New for this year is the FamCam interior camera that helps drivers keep an eye on their younger ones. Even parents can view their small dairies on rear-facing child seats and zoom in on a particular seat. Second-line kids get the Uconnect Theater entertainment system available with all kinds of games to keep them busy on the long drive – everything from sudoku to back seat bingo is packed inside, and kids also stream content from their devices Can.
Charging options abound on my Limited Tester with two USB-A and USB-C ports as well as a wireless charging front, a center console with USB-A and USB-C outlets, and a 12-volt outlet. Second-line passengers each get a USB-A, HDMI and a headphone jack, and a 115-volt, 150-watt outlet. The third line kiddos each get USB-A and USB-C ports. No person’s equipment should be less than 100% at the end of a road trip.
Pacific gets Chrysler’s new Uconnect 5 infotainment technology for 2021, and is a major improvement over an already excellent system. The overall layout is still the same, but the processing time is faster, the graphics are clearer and it comes on a 10-inch touchscreen standard. In addition, the home screen can be personalized for up to six users, complete with preferred media, climate, and seat settings.And As always here, but Amazon Alexa joins the party. Alexa can perform tasks such as starting a car while the driver is indoors and will also control the media and check news, traffic and weather and use other Alexa skills.
Driver-assisted technology gets a boost for 2021 with new automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and plenty of standard ADAS features that were once optional. Forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assistance are now standard this year.
I really like the adaptive cruise control system in the Pacific. It accelerates around slow moving vehicles that get out of the mine lane and applies smoothly when the car moves forward.
The Pacific Hybrid starts at $ 41,490, including $ 1,495 for the destination and extends to $ 52,340 for the new Pinnacle trim. Keep in mind that opting for a plug-in hybrid means that you may be eligible for a $ 7,500 federal tax credit as well as state and local incentives. My limited tester comes for $ 50,825.
However, I’m not sure that the Pacific Hybrid would be my first choice for a minivan. Yes, it is a lot more efficient than gas-only Pacific, but it is not under control when my electrons are used. It may be more worthwhile to go with the Toyota Siana, which is not as stylish and an Entune system than the Uconnect, but it gets 36 mpg combined without ever having to plug in, moreover, if you live where Is now All-wheel drive will help.
Nevertheless, Pacific Excel, with superb technology and premium design. It is easy to drive and has ample entertainment available to keep small people entertained for hours. Give me the option to choose your EV driving and it may be the right van.
